Program Summary

The Good Samaritan Child Development Center provides a State-licensed, full-day preschool program for children 2 ½ to 5 years of age. Our goal is to provide a safe and nurturing environment that encourages physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development through a developmentally appropriate curriculum. Our philosophy is child-centered, rather than adult directed. The dual-language (Spanish/English) program curriculum is realized through structuring the environment into interest areas, the planning of program activities to meet each child’s individual needs, and the opportunity for active participation rather than passive observation. Children participate in developmentally appropriate activities that are designed to develop their social skills, enhance their fine and gross motor skills, encourage creative learning, cognitive development, and teach pre-literacy and skills.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Implement and document diverse activities that are developmentally appropriate for children ages 3-5.
  • Constantly supervise the children under the regulations of the License of the State of California.
  • Assist the Master and Associate Teachers prepare materials that are used in and out of the classroom.
  • Support the Master and Associate Teachers with parent conferences and complete evaluations in the four developmental areas for children.
  • Document all activities related to the CDC
  • Open and close the CDC
  • Care for the health, security and well- being of the children
  • Plan activities for the children
  • Prepare snacks for the children
  • Support the Master Teacher and supervise the Associate Teachers
  • Attend meetings with CDC and staff
  • Maintain direct contact/good communication with the parents/guardians of the children
  • Oversee entire operation of classroom in the absence of the master teacher

Qualifications

  • AA/BA preferred
  • Credentialed teacher of the State of California
  • 24 ECE Units with Core Courses, 6 Administration Units and 2 adult Supervision Units
  • Bilingual Spanish/English required
  • Motivated, high energy person
  • Working knowledge of early childhood development issues
  • Familiar with reporting procedures for child and adult protective services
  • Familiar with community care licensing policies and regulations
  • State certified in First Aid and Infant/Child CPR
  • Computer literate
  • Respect and value the ethnic and cultural diversity of clients and staff
  • Respectful, welcoming, confidential, sensitive to immigrant issues
  • Self-motivated, flexible, problem solving
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work well with children, parents, staff and volunteers

Physical Requirement
• Ability to lift 30 pounds chest high
• Ability to stand and walk, reach, bend, stoop, move arms and hands
