Job Summary:

The high school athletic trainer is responsible for providing comprehensive athletic training services to student-athletes. This includes injury prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. The athletic trainer will work closely with coaches, school nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the health and safety of all student-athletes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Injury Prevention and Care:
    • Develop and implement injury prevention programs for student-athletes.
    • Provide first aid and emergency care for athletic injuries during practices and games.
    • Evaluate and assess injuries to determine the appropriate course of treatment.
  • Rehabilitation:
    • Design and supervise rehabilitation programs for injured athletes.
    • Monitor and document the progress of athletes' rehabilitation.
    • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers to facilitate recovery.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work closely with coaches to ensure athletes are prepared for competition and training.
    • Communicate effectively with parents, coaches, and school officials regarding the status of injured athletes.
    • Educate student-athletes on injury prevention, nutrition, and general health.
  • Program Administration:
    • Maintain accurate records of injuries, treatments, and rehabilitation progress.
    • Ensure compliance with school policies, state regulations, and professional standards.
    • Assist with the development and management of the athletic training budget and inventory.
  • Event Coverage:
    • Provide on-site coverage for athletic events and practices as scheduled.
    • Travel with teams as necessary to provide athletic training services.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Athletic Training or related field.
  • Certification by the Board of Certification (BOC) for the Athletic Trainer.
  • State licensure or registration as required.
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.
  • Experience working with high school athletes.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical record systems.

  • Hold or be eligible for required certification.
  • Ability to work well with students, parents, staff, and the community.
  • High integrity, excellent character, and sound professional reputation.
  • Ability to be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
  • Ability to perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
  • Ability to perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.
  • Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communication are essential to performing required tasks.
  • Must be able to properly and consistently supervise students, particularly during emergencies.
  • Exposure to various weather conditions during outdoor events.
  • A flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, accommodates athletic events and practices.
