Purpose: Performs routine custodial and maintenance tasks according to organization, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and local sanitation guidelines to ensure center/environment meets all regulatory guidelines.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

Accepted: High school diploma or GED and three years of experience in maintenance/custodial related work.

Preferred: Associate degree or Vocational School Certificate and 2 years of experience in maintenance/custodial related work.

Skills, Knowledge, and Ability: Effective communication skills; ability to read written and electronic information. Knowledge of general maintenance, modern cleaning methods, materials, and equipment. Knowledge of general safety and hazardous materials rules and regulations. High integrity and ability to work independently. Knowledge of migrant farmworker communities, culture, and lifestyle. Multi-lingual (English/Spanish or Creole) preferred.

Working Conditions: Head Start childcare center environment; flexible work hours (occasional evening/ weekend/overtime). Travel independently to buy supplies. This role routinely uses various tools and chemicals to maintain facility. Able to perform tasks, including but not limited to bending, lifting, and moving a minimum of twenty-five (25) pounds.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Follow and adhere to procedures and guidelines in ECMHSP manuals, childcare license regulations, and OHS requirements.
  • Complete cleaning tasks to ensure standards are kept including, washing windows, emptying trash and recycling, cleaning floors, cleaning restrooms, sanitizing kitchen, etc.
  • Uses proper cleaning materials and products to sanitize, disinfect and deodorize according to standards and keep Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) hazardous materials safety plan following OSHA.
  • Organizes cleaning items, disinfectants and other materials kept in storage, as well as cleaning equipment.
  • Maintains building, performing minor and routine painting, plumbing, and other related maintenance activities including but not limited to replacing light bulbs, replacing ceiling and floor tiles, and changing air filters.
  • Complete assigned health and safety checklists.
  • Work with supervisor to complete and generate work orders.
  • Perform outside work such as lawn maintenance and landscaping as assigned.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions as approved by supervisor.
  • Maintain positive communication and attitude of respect with children, families, staff members and community representatives.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
