Southside Unlimited's Work of Art program is a vibrant, progressive venture where all people of all abilities and interests work side-by-side to discover their artistic voice. Work of Art is a branch of Southside Unlimited, a non-profit that creates opportunities for artistic expression, personal progress, and active citizenship for adults with developmental disabilities. 


As an Art Instructor, you'll have the opportunity to work closely with artists both one-on-one and in small groups, guiding them through their creative projects. You'll collaborate with your team to develop effective teaching strategies, research local art events and shows, and contribute to the company’s marketing efforts by creating and scheduling engaging social media posts. In addition to assisting customers and documenting daily progress, you'll also be responsible for coordinating and facilitating yearly meetings, as well as managing all related paperwork for participants. You'll be part of a dedicated team that takes an innovative, person-centered approach to support adults with developmental disabilities, helping them lead fulfilling and meaningful lives within their community.

Salary: $19/hour (37 hours/week) with incentives & increases every other year


Hours: Full-time, Monday-Friday between the hours of 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

  • Must be flexible to work occasional evenings and weekends based on business needs

Skills required:

  • BA in Art or strong background in various art mediums including painting/drawing, digital art & mixed media.
  • Experience in Human Services and/or Teaching strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of computers and familiarity with Google Docs, Spreadsheets, Adobe Suite, and Procreate.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and listening skills.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to think outside the box.
  • Research and develop new teaching techniques.
  • Able to break things down so that people can learn at their own pace.
  • Professionally recognized practicing artist.


Required to work:

  • BA in Art or related field.
  • Highly skilled artists preferred (may substitute skill level for education).
  • CPR/AED/First Aid Certified. 
  • Driver’s License, proof of car insurance and vehicle registration.
  • Clear a background check.
