Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Clean and sterilize instruments used in surgery
  • Inspect instruments for damage
  • Stock surgical rooms as needed
  • Stock and organize instrument rooms and supply closets
  • Conduct biological testing of sterilizers (autoclaves)
  • Keep and maintain log of sterilizer and biological indicator tests
  • Alert appropriate staff when failed sterilization occurs
  • Daily maintenance and cleaning of sterilizers
  • Clean procedure chairs, dust blinds, and clean OR lights when available
  • Keep laundry closet and scrubs organized and supplied
  • Collect full linen bags from rooms and replace with new linen bags
  • Week supply order preparation and route to appropriate office/person
  • Maintain standards consistent with The Skin Surgery Center Mission Statement
  • Maintain compliance with The Skin Surgery Center Compliance Program
  • Maintain compliance with HIPPA standards
  • Stay current with BLS annually.
  • Participate is OSHA and HIPPA training annually.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of surgical instruments and the sterilization process as documented by employee orientation.
  • Excellent oral communication skills
  • Able to demonstrate independent judgment and initiative appropriately
  • Must be able to tolerate standing and walking for 8 hours per day.
  • Proficiency in the operation of a computer keyboard (40 WPM minimum) and ability to work effectively with Microsoft Office Products.
  • Ability to document patient records using proper grammar and spelling
  • Must have full range of body motion with the ability to push, pull, reach, bend, stand, stoop, stretch, lift, and carry up to 20 pounds.
  • Have the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity needed to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and medical equipment.
  • Have a normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports; specific vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.
  • Education and/or Experience Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Dermatology practice or office experience a plus.
