Role of the Sterile Processing Technician

As a Sterile Processing Technician at PMC, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the patient experience by executing various tasks related to the care and reprocessing of gastrointestinal flexible endoscopes and their accessories. Your responsibilities will include thorough manual cleaning of endoscopes, conducting leak tests, inspecting instruments, and operating scope washers.

Daily Responsibilities:

• Conduct all aspects of reprocessing, high-level disinfection, and maintenance of GI endoscopes and related equipment.
• Oversee the care and upkeep of Automated Endoscope Reprocessors, including monitoring and replacing high-level disinfectants, testing and documenting disinfectant efficacy, and troubleshooting any issues.
• Test all equipment to ensure proper functionality and report any malfunctions to the supervisor.
• Perform and verify that Quality Indicators are within acceptable ranges.
• Assist in entering data into the database accurately.
• Communicate effectively regarding scope repairs, loaners, supplies, and quality indicators by maintaining thorough documentation.
• Accurately log data in appropriate records.
• Support the ordering and restocking of necessary supplies.
• Assist with patient transport, monitoring procedures, room turnover, and processing instruments/equipment.
• Help room personnel with patient preparations and positioning in accordance with departmental policies.
• Assist in documenting and labeling specimens during endoscopic procedures.

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED); or one to three months of related experience and/or training; or a combination of education and experience.
• Basic Life Support certification for Healthcare Providers is mandatory.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in sterile reprocessing, gastroenterology, or as an endoscopy technician is preferred.
• Prior experience as a Sterile Processing Technician is advantageous.
• Knowledge of surgical procedures, policies, and protocols is desirable.

Work Schedule: Day Shift (Monday through Friday) with no weekends or holidays
Compensation: Hourly (Non-Exempt)
