Job Description summary:

The Security Director is responsible for the day-to-day security operations of The Meadowlands Racetrack. This position also assists in the development and implementation of departmental practices and procedures and is the primary person responsible for ensuring a safe and secure facility for all patrons, employees, visitors, etc. This position oversees the Assistant Security Manager and the security team and its assignments, posts, and priorities. The Security Manager assumes a proactive role in keeping open communications and allowing for maximum security coverage.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Provide excellent guest service to both internal and external guests.
  • Acts as a representative of the company, interacting with customers and Employees in a courteous, professional manner
  • Prepares reports and ensures accuracy of reports and compliance with internal procedures and DGE regulations
  • Conduct site reviews, write audit/review reports, review findings, and make recommendations to line management.
  • Conduct internal investigations
  • Investigate patron complaints.
  • Liaison to New Jersey State Police, fire department and medical assistants.
  • Monitor and evaluate unit performance on key security issues and programs, recommends corrective action programs to deliver best safety and security.
  • Ensures consistent operations are followed on all shifts.
  • Establish/maintain robust customer relationship to ensure complete understanding of customer processes to enable the delivery of viable security responses.
  • Provides direction to team by supervising daily activities, providing feedback both formally and informally, interprets and enforces policies and procedures.
  • Held accountable, to a high degree, for the accuracy and thoroughness of departmental records and reports
  • Plan, develop and implement security plans, security programs such as Emergency Response and Crisis Management, Physical Security, Evacuation Procedures, Information Protection, Incident Management and/or Investigation.
  • Maintain knowledge of complex industry trends, current security issues and security technology and update management on risk and threat that could impact or improve company business.
  • Provide leadership, advice and counsel to line management on security policy and practice while identifying exposures and to recommend and develop corrective plans as appropriate.
  • Serve as staff support to security and assist in conducting investigations of significant threats and/or the loss or misappropriation of assets.
  • Perform incident analysis/reporting and investigation relative to all incidents with advice and closure to all responsible functional management and supporting security team.
  • Program and maintain data in the building access control in order to authorize appropriate employee access level for entry into facilities.
  • Assess security needs and controls employee and visitor access to buildings and property and ensure authorized entry and safe exit at shift end.
  • Assign tasks/posts and supervise all the work activities of security personnel.
  • Design and implement standard operating procedures for security team while overseeing all rules and regulations are adhered to.
  • Ensure administrative duties for department on-site are completed i.e. record-keeping, payroll, employee data tracking, training, on-boarding, etc.
  • Prepares, administers, and adheres to department budget.
  • Approve shift schedules and approve leave and overtime use, in order to ensure continuous coverage.
  • Screen hand-delivered envelopes and packages in order to inspect for hazards.
  • Assists management team in leading the company safety initiative; attends safety committee meetings as required.
  • Investigates all reported workplace health and safety hazards and resolves all threats as soon as possible.
  • Maintains communication with HR team to report OSHA claims and risks.
  • Responsible for all Security functions during a given event.
  • Responsible for departmental hiring process.
  • Maintains appropriate staffing levels in the Department by interviewing, assisting in selection, training, scheduling, evaluating, and disciplining Employees as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or related area from a four-year college or university preferred, or four to six years related experience, or an equivalent combination of college and experience. Two years supervisory experience in security required.

  • SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Police background with five years of supervisory experience.

Advanced people skills; diffusing hostility, diversity training, verbal communication and he or she will also need to have TEAM Coalition Training (Techniques for Effective Alcohol Management). Incumbent needs to have first Responder training and Self defense, excellent communication skills required.

  • LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or Employees of the company.

  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

  • REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  • LICENSURE AND PRE EMPLOYMENT:

Must qualify for and maintain licensures as required by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement and the New Jersey Racing Commission. Must pass a background suitability investigation and a pre-employment drug screen.

  • Incumbent will need to be able to move from inside at a desk
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. When on the public area floor, the noise level increases to loud, especially during live race days and major sporting event betting days.
  • The work hours include weekdays, evenings and nights, weekends, holidays.
