What the Role Is
The Visitor Center Accountant is the lead accountant for multiple Heaven Hill visitor centers located in Kentucky (2) and Texas (1). In addition to routine monthly accounting transactions this position will be responsible for analyzing financial information to prepare budgets and ad-hoc financial reports to guide strategic initiatives in partnership with various Visitor Center Leaders. This position will act as the administrator of multiple point-of-sale systems to ensure data integrity and operational controls.
This Accountant will coordinate and ensure completion of monthly cycle counts and full physical inventories performed annually at all locations. When necessary, this position will assist the Accounting Manager with routine accounting transactions for fixed assets, various account reconciliations, roll forwards and ad-hoc projects.
How You Will Spend Your Time?
- Create yearly budgets for multiple locations
- Perform routine month end closing activities by utilizing data extracted from multiple sources including retail, ticketing, bar, and webstore software
- Balance, reconcile and analyze various balance sheet accounts
- Prepare monthly financial statements and key metrics highlighting wins or missed opportunities
- Approve and code all invoices for operations and retail inventory
- Weekly/monthly inventory sales analysis and promotional event profitability
- Review for completeness and approve employee expense reports
- Find and address errors in reporting, API data between multiple POS systems, and lead projects related to POS implementations or updates
- Coordinate with Visitor Center Leadership to develop, maintain and analyze operating, capital expenditure and balance sheet budgets
- Act as administrator of multiple point of sale systems. This includes setting up and maintaining the accounting interface, inventory control, costing, accounts payable and purchasing. Customize system to meet needs of each visitor center including point-of- sale display, reporting, new items or tours, discount codes, etc
- Analyze business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations to project future revenues and expenses to assist in key management decisions regarding operating and merchandising strategies
- Report, file and pay necessary state sales tax from retail, ticketing and webstore operations for both Kentucky and Texas locations
- Meet with members of management for periodic reporting and planning
- Ensure complete and accurate records for Visitor Center case good production
- Implement and monitor cash handling policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Coordinate cycle counting and annual retail physical inventory. Reconcile and adjust physical inventory to general ledger
- Provide training to visitor center employees as necessary in point-of-sale systems
- Assist with creating policies and procedures related to internal transaction handling
- Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations. Compose new practices when policies change
- Perform various general ledger account reconciliations and other accounting as needed
- Assist in annual audit
- On-site POS support during updates, issues, or offsite event support
- Travel to Bardstown or Louisville, KY and Austin, TX periodically
- Additional responsibilities may arise
Who You Are…
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Three (3) years accounting experience, preferably in hospitality or similar industry
- Proficient computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office (specifically Excel), ERP System Software, and other web-based applications
- Mature interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and build strong working relationships
- Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, the financial markets, foreign currency, banking and the analysis and reporting of financial data
- Independent thinker with the ability to work and make decisions without direct supervision
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills
- Forward thinker with strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent computer skills with a proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and ERP/GL systems
- Ability to prioritize and meet competing deadlines
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience with POS systems (Counterpoint, Anyroad, Arryved)
Valued but not Required Skills and Experience:
- MBA, CPA or CMA
- Retail accounting experience
- Distilled Spirits industry experience
Physical Requirements
While performing duties of job, employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, and use of computer; reach with hands and arms. Must be able to sit at a desk and use a computer for long periods of time. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
