As a Mechanical Reliability Engineer/Maintenance Supervisor, you will supervise a team of mechanics and a maintenance planner, holding the group accountable to a high standard of excellence in safety, environmental stewardship, efficiency and compliance with procedures, standards, and regulations. You will prioritize and coordinate maintenance activities with plant demands and operations labor while maintaining maximum efficiency. Assume ownership and provide leadership for mechanical and reliability engineering to plant Operations. The role will focus on identification and implementation of improved methods and strategies for reliability of existing equipment in addition to design and implementation of new systems and equipment needed to advance performance.

This role will require some work in outside areas and inside unconditioned spaces. The role is day based but may require some off hours and weekend calls in plant emergency situations. Some intermittent and infrequent travel may be required.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all operating, EH&S, and other applicable site and company procedures.
  • Supervise plant maintenance mechanics and planner/scheduler.
  • Apply knowledge and experience using risk-based thinking to cost effectively improve the reliability and predictability of the Waynesboro, VA plant.
  • Work with operations to improve asset reliability.
  • Coach personnel and provide appropriate feedback to improve individual and/or team performance.
  • Drive culture that creates long term business value through innovation and challenging the status quo.
  • Develop and maintain meaningful area performance metrics that drive improvements.
  • Identify opportunities for efficiency improvements in the planning and scheduling process.
  • Drive root-cause analysis for problem solving and decision making.
  • Prioritize and ensure completion of PPM activities.
  • Development and oversight of the Plant Mechanical Integrity (MI) Inspection Program.
  • Utilize reliability and statistical tools and methodologies to analyse data and develop reliability improvements on process and equipment issues (e.g., Reliability Modelling, Root Cause Analysis, Weibull Analysis, Reliability Centered Maintenance, RBI Analysis).
  • Utilize the site Management of Change (MOC) process to make changes to the equipment and facilities.
  • Support the maintenance and repair of plant equipment by providing technical knowledge, specifications, and training.
  • Support the design and implementation of capital projects from a mechanical discipline.
  • Utilize current engineering practices and equipment for creative solutions and project development.

Qualifications (Required):

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • Experience as a Mechanical Engineer in support of a manufacturing plant or equivalent.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Familiarity with OSHA safe work requirements.
  • A valid government issued driver’s license.


Qualifications (Preferred):

  • Previous experience managing a team with demonstrated ability to effectively lead and motivate a diverse group of employees, preferably in a manufacturing setting.
  • Reliability Centered Maintenance certification.
  • Experience with maintenance best practices and approaches utilized in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with SAP
