As we grow our network, we are looking for an OSP Construction Inspection Technician to be part of our team

The OSP Construction Technician will perform tasks necessary to build a service order and build activity associated with network facilities (fiber). Focuses on the overall operations of the network, including network performance, installation, and/or maintenance. Conducts routine network operations activities, including translations and other duties involved with the preparation needed prior to installation or the tracking and analysis of network elements. Outside plant construction pathways are either aerial, underground, conduit, direct buried and can be used in any combination depending on the job requirements.


Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate projects in the field to ensure they are on time and within budget.
  • Field inspect contractors during build and post build projects.
  • Monitor the progress of area utility locator.
  • Responsible for completing weekly production reports.
  • Route Inspections – drive ImOn routes to inspect pole line and buried routes.
  • Meets operational standards by contributing construction information to strategic plans and reviews; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; identifying construction management system improvements.
  • Responds to and participates in emergency and outage situations.
  • Ensures that all work considers the safety of the customer and general public and compliance with all OSHA guidelines.
  • Uses test equipment to check for gas in manholes; may be required to empty water and other debris from manholes.
  • All other duties as assigned
Requirements:

We are looking for people with:

  • 1+ year(s) experience in one or combination of equipment installation, cable splicing, line work, installation and repair.
  • Must accommodate after-hours work as required.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Iowa Driver License with a driving record that allows employee to be insured by ImOn’s insurance carrier.
  • Ability to read and interpret splice documentation, plant diagrams and perform field change orders.
  • Ability to operate test equipment such as VOM, test sets, OTDR and Fusion splicers, and Power Source Meters.
  • Ability to operates power equipment such as generators, blowers and hydraulic aerial lifts mounted on trucks.
  • Ability to differentiate between different sizes and colors of fiber
  • Ability to comply with all Company implemented safety procedures
  • Knowledge of National Electric Code and National Electrical Safety Code desired.
  • General understanding of Aerial and Underground Telecommunications Construction is desired, including:
  • Knowledge of constructing aerial network fiber (FTTX), pole frames, strand, lashing, gigging cable, easements and ROW, boring specifications, structure placement
  • General understanding of DOT traffic control requirements
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders, specifications, and engineering drawings such as Fiber Documentation (maps for FTTX- new fiber to the X or subscriber) maps for HFC and Phone, Fiber Splice documentation and Termination Assignments)
