Job Description

The teacher is responsible for the supervision of children and is to plan classroom curriculum in accordance with HH Stepping Stones curriculum, for the specific age group they are working with and keeping with the center’s philosophy and policies ensuring the safety of the children. The teacher is to submit lesson plans on the third Monday of the month for the following month’s lesson plans for the Director’s approval. Teachers may conference with parents regarding their students but must do so through the direction of the director. All negative reports must go through the Director first. The teacher is directly responsible to the Director and will follow all written instructions when given.


Responsibilities:

  • Arranging and developing curriculum to meet the developmental needs of the children in their specific age group and fulfilling scheduling expectations and following the HH Stepping Stones.
  • Planning, supervising, and implementing the program for the class in accordance with the objectives, policies, scheduling, values, and mission of the school.
  • Submitting to the Director on the third Monday of the Month, the following month’s lesson plans for approval, news blurb for the newsletter, and any purchase order request for the following month.
  • Submitting in writing, request for material to be used in the lesson plans for the following month by the third Monday of each month.
  • Class curriculum should be planned for children’s needs, shortcomings, talents, and individual learning style.
  • Treating each child as an individual with respect, dignity and being a positive role model in the classroom and learning environment.
  • Making the classroom a positive learning environment that grows along with the class. Not delaying the abilities and/or needs of the children but enriching the classroom.
  • Attending all scheduled staff meetings, workshops, conferences, orientations, and parent education seminars to ensure the growth of the program.
  • Each teacher will observe the environment as a whole and ensure safety, love and excellence are being implemented per our HH values.
  • Teachers will observe and direct parent volunteers and teach parents to better understand the needs of all the children at the center.
  • Each teacher will be assigned chores by the Director. The chore schedule will be posted in the designated area.
  • Each teacher is responsible for clocking in/out when they arrive at work and when they leave for breaks accordingly.
  • Each teacher is responsible for notifying the Director (assistant director when director is unavailable) 1 hour before their scheduled work time or when the
  • center opens, whichever is first, that they call, not text, but call that they will be absent or late for the day.
  • Each teacher is expected to leave their classroom clean and orderly when leaving during each transition and when leaving for the day. On Fridays make sure that all personal things are locked up and things that require to be stored are in a safe place.
  • Each teacher is responsible to update any information as need be, that directly affects their employment such as and not limited to transcripts, change of address, phone numbers, and any health documents.
  • All teachers are responsible for the health, care, and safety of all children in the center; responsible for distribution of any medication as prescribed to any child who is in their class; responsible for identification and correction of any potentially harmful situation. The Assistant Director and the Director are responsible for making sure that the teachers have given the assigned children in their class the proper medications to ensure that the task has been done.
  • Each teacher may be required to do any of the following activities during the hours of their scheduled workday. These activities may be part of the normal day to day activities within the classroom schedule and may have items added or changed at any time. These activities are expected in a teacher’s daily routine.

  • Supervision in the classroom & outside
  • Maintain ration of 12:1 at all times
  • Plan curriculum & be prepped and ready for each day
  • Create Art, Science, & Bible activities daily
  • Set up center play
  • Read stories, dance, have fun with students
  • Conduct singing circle times
  • Conduct age-appropriate circle time everyday
  • Serve snack
  • Teach and implement manners
  • Clean tables
  • Sweep floors
  • Pick up toys off the floor
  • Changing diapers and diaper pales/garbage
  • Taking out the garbage as needed and clean garbage cans as needed
  • Change children who are dirty or wet
  • Pick up garbage from floors in bathroom, wiping water from floors and keeping garbage in garbage can, keeping it from overflowing
  • Flush toilets
  • Sweep outside sidewalks
  • Wash dishes and clean counter leave kitchen clean and orderly
  • Wash toys
  • Scrub and clean walls in classrooms, hallways, and bathrooms
  • Scrub and clean chairs
  • Move light furniture
  • Use a stepping stool
  • Preparing curriculum according to age group and following the Stepping Stones guidelines
  • Assisting children with caution to use proper stepping stools with safety in mind
  • Decorate and maintain with children’s academic work, themed art, science, & bible for the month
  • Each teacher is responsible for making sure they take their assigned breaks. If there are any discrepancies, it is the teacher’s responsibility to notify the Site Director.
  • Each teacher is expected to know the Level I//Level II job description as given to them with their personnel handbook

****Any person moving into a new position at the center will go through a 6-month probationary period. During the probationary period, there will be a 3-month review scheduled and a 6-month review scheduled to determine if the transition will continue and will be completed within or by the 6-month probationary period end date. Then and only then will employment in that position be decided and become permanent. The decision will be made by the Superintendent of Schools of The Great Commission Association.****

Requirements:

Qualifications

To be a fully qualified teacher, a teacher shall have

  • High school diploma or GED, with passing grades, and one of the following prior to employment:
  1. Twelve post-secondary semester units or equivalent quarter units in early childhood education or child development completed at an accredited or approved college or university and at least six months of work experience in a licensed day care center or comparable group child care program.

A) The educational units specified in the above shall include courses which cover the general areas of child growth and development or human growth and development, child family and community and program curriculum.

B) Experience shall be verified as having been performed satisfactory at least three hours a for a minimum of 50 days in a six-month period, as a paid or volunteer staff member under the supervision of a person who would qualify as a teacher or director under these regulations.

2. A Child Center Permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Preparation and Licensing.

  • A Photo copy of the Teacher’s Children’s Center Permit or transcripts documenting successful completion of the required course work shall be maintained at the center.
  • Prior employment, a teacher shall have completed at least six semester units or equivalent quarter units of education requirement after employment, a teacher shall complete with passing grades, at least two units each semester or quarter until the education requirement is met.
