Position Summary:

The Supervisor of Resident Assistants, Marillac serves to ensure a safe, secure, healthy, clean, and positive environment for families as they make their transition from homelessness through aftercare. Assist families in service plan implementation by obtaining information and providing feedback regarding their progress toward service plan goals. Plan, coordinate and assign to staff recreational and educational activities for children and families residing in the facility. Maintain respect, support, care and a family atmosphere for residents of the facility and fellow staff members. Provide supervision to Resident Assistants. Identify training needs of facility staff and follow through with implementation of training needs. Conduct bi-weekly staff meetings. Manage the overall program operations during evening and weekend shifts.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Establish and maintain professional working relationships with residents, maintaining appropriate personal boundaries; establish and maintain professional working relationships with staff members, in accordance with all agency procedures, policies, and practices.
  • Meet with families on a daily basis to assist them with service plan goals and offer education and instruction regarding daily living skills; act responsibly in providing information and empower residents to identify choices in their daily lives.
  • Provide oversight of the Rec Room and assist the Activities Coordinator by assigning staff to coordinate evening and weekend recreational and educational activities for children and families residing in the shelter.
  • Ensure safe, secure, healthy, and clean environment by making rounds of the property, both interior and exterior, and reporting situations which need attention, and providing follow up as needed.
  • Document interactions with families using critical incident reports, intake information forms, and progress note section of case files, log, etc.
  • Assist with orderly transition of families from intake through discharge.
  • Intervene in crisis situations and assist with conflict resolution as needed by providing mediation and facilitating communication.
  • Participate in professional development programming on a regular basis.
  • Rotate the on-call beeper and provide coverage of the program when needed.
  • Clearly communicate concerns and suggestions to Program Director.
  • Actively contribute to the maintenance of a “client supportive” and respectful community.
  • Manage responsibilities of telephone and reception desk staff.
  • Design and update monthly staff schedule to be posted in the conference room two weeks in advance.
  • Supervise Resident Assistant staff, Senior Resident Assistants, and provide oversight of the Activities Coordinator while providing documentation and feedback regarding job performance to each staff and to the Program Director as necessary.
  • In partnership with the Director of Training identify training needs of staff and follow through with the implementation of training.
  • Management of the facility in the absence of the Program Director and the Assistant Director.
  • Participate in Quality Assurance and Serious Incident Reviews.
  • Attend and participate in Management Team Meetings and monthly Management Forum Meetings.
  • Participate in the agency Treatment Planning and Services Delivery Committee.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Program Director.

Essential Functions:

  • Capable of making on-site contacts with referring agencies, collaborative agencies, and family units.
  • Ability to carry out written documentation as required by St. Catherine’s policies and procedures and as required by regulating agencies.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to competently provide a supportive response to staff following a critical incident.
  • Ability to objectively review critical incidents and identify areas for improvement.
  • Must be able to perform well under crisis conditions, with the capacity to carry out Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) strategies.
  • Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle and meet the criteria outlined in the Revised Policy for Agency Drivers.
  • Flexibility to work hours outside of regularly scheduled work hours, within reason.
  • Ability to lead and inspire confidence in those supervised as well as those who collaborate on a peer level.
  • Value a nurturing family as the ideal environment for a person; and believe in the principle that people have the capacity to grow and change at their own pace and motivation.
  • Ability to interact with a wide range of people, including those who are culturally and socio-economically diverse, as well as people with various developmental and functional levels.

  • Ability and conceptualizations necessary to embrace and work effectively within a therapeutic-based program.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and in a family-focused approach with families, welcoming them as part of the Homeless Services Community.
  • The ability to establish a respectful relationship with persons served to help them gain skills and confidence, empowering them to solve their own problems.
  • Ability to work effectively in a shared decision-making model as a team member, and work collaboratively with other personnel and service providers or professionals.
  • The capacity to maintain a helping role and to intervene appropriately to meet service goals, while setting appropriate limits.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion.
  • This position will have full and complete access to client Protected Health Information (PHI) in order to carry out the duties and responsibilities for this position. Therefore, the ability to meet HIPAA requirements and maintain strict client confidentiality is essential.

Position Specifications:

  • Associate's degree required; BSW or Bachelor's Degree in a related field preferred.
  • Previous supervisory and/or management experience in a human service agency required.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills, both orally and in written form.
  • Must have a Clean and Valid New York State Driver’s License, with driving experience for at least one year.
  • Formal crisis intervention training a plus
  • Experience with MS Office Suite required (Word, Excel), Google Business Suite (Google Sheets, Docs, Meet), as well as secure Internet practices.
  • Ability to relate to a culturally diverse population; Must be willing to work alongside the clients we serve.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times, stressful environment.
  • Ability to handle sensitive data with strict confidentiality.
  • Self-motivated and engaged, with a strong attention to detail, Excellent writing aptitude.
  • Demonstrated patience, flexibility and adaptability.
  • Ability to pass required pre-employment background checks, to include fingerprinting.
