Job Title: Custodian / CDL Driver

Location/Work Status: Honolulu, Hawaii

Job Type: Full Time (40 hours / week), Non-Exempt

Compensation: $18.27 / hour with competitive benefits package

Federally funded initiatives provide early childhood education and related comprehensive services for low-income parents and children, and children with special needs. Early Head Start (EHS) provides services in centers and in homes to prenatal parents and parents with infants and toddlers. Head Start (HS) serves children ages three through five and their parents to provide a head start for school success.

The Custodian / Driver is responsible for maintaining the appearance of program grounds, offices, classrooms, and vehicles and for driving the PACT school busses over designated routes and to pre-planned events to transport children and families safely. This position is under the direct supervision of the Support Services Supervisor or Area Manager depending on location.

Essential Duties:
  • Performs custodial duties, including, but not limited to, daily maintenance and cleaning of the interior of designated offices and classrooms and the exterior of the designated buildings and playground areas. Includes light and deep cleaning (i.e. stripping floors, shampooing carpets, exterior window cleaning, etc.)
  • Performs minor skilled building and equipment maintenance and repairs for classrooms and PACT portable units.
  • Operates school buses or other PACT vehicles to transport children, families, and staff to and from EHS-HS classrooms, socializations, field trips, and other program required. Ensures all passengers are wearing age/weight appropriate safety restraints and that no child is left unattended while on the bus.
  • Performs related safety duties such as daily pre-post trip checks and monthly bus evacuation drills.
  • Ensures the serviceability and cleanliness of school buses and program vehicles which includes, but is not limited to, inspection for mechanical defects, fueling, and cleaning of interior and exterior of buses by all appropriate means. Assists other bus drivers with routine tasks, including mechanical repairs. Reports needed repairs of buses, program vehicles, and equipment to the assigned Supervisor to ensure all are in a safe working condition.
  • Attends all required training and certification/licensing activities associated with the responsibilities and requirements of the position.
  • Submits all required paperwork (e.g. incident reports, inspections, etc.) in a complete and timely manner.

Minimum Qualifications 1. Must be 18 years of age or older, required.2. High School Diploma, or equivalent, required.3. At least one (1) year experience in the operation of large and/or commercial passenger vehicles, or equivalent, required.

Other:1. Must possess a valid Driver’s license issued by the Hawaii State Department of Motor Vehicles2. Must possess a Commercials Driver’s License (CDL) under DOT class standards to operate a commercial vehicle at time of hire and renewed upon expiration for continued employment.3. Is able to successfully complete a medical examination and required pre-employment drug testing for commercial driver fitness determination as requested and upon hire.4. Possesses proof of no-fault insurance.5. Is able to obtain an acceptable driver's abstract annually and upon hire.6. Is able to obtain an acceptable FBI background check.7. Is able to obtain an acceptable CPS child abuse registry check.
8. Has been tested and is negative for Tuberculosis no older than 12 months prior to employment
