Position is 233 working days and 13 paid Holidays; a typical work week is Monday - Friday with an expectation of no more than 40 hours per week. For weeks with less than five working days, daily hours only apply. Some evening work may be required to attend evening home visits. This job description is subject to change with or without notice.

Position Summary:

The Early Head Start (EHS) Family Educator is the primary educator and case manager for assigned EHS children and families enrolled in the home-base option. Works as a member of the EHS Multidisciplinary Team to plan and implement individualized home-based services to pregnant women, children and families. Responsible to provide in-home instruction as well as group socialization experiences to pregnant women, parents and children (infants/toddlers) which will enhance the parents' ability to fill the role of primary nurturer and educator of their child. Maintains ongoing contact with pregnant women, and families and works with all other ELE service areas (Family Services, Health and Nutrition, Mental Health and Disabilities) to integrate comprehensive services into the family home setting.


Family Educators work closely with a designated Family Advocate and a Health Service Specialist as well as Mental Health and Disabilities Coordinators. Supervision is provided by a trained Child Development Coordinator.


Qualifications:

  1. Must have a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential for Infant and Toddler Caregivers or an equivalent credential that addresses comparable competencies or within one year of hire

OR

2. Associates degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) from a recognized institution OR

Associates degree from a recognized institution in a field closely related to ECE as agreed upon by the agency and coursework equivalent to a major relating to early childhood education (6 classes relating to Early Childhood Education), with a minimum of one (1) year experience teaching preschool-age children or preschool labwork leading to an ECE degree from a recognized
institution.

OR

3. Bachelor's or advanced degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) from a recognized institution


OR

Bachelor's or advanced degree from a recognized institution in a very closely related field or any field, as agreed upon by the agency and coursework equivalent to a major relating to Early Childhood Education (6 classes relating to ECE).

  • Official or unofficial transcript which shows the award or confer date of the degree must be attached to the employment application.
  • A minimum of one year of experience working with preschool children in an Early Childhood Education setting or preschool labwork leading to an ECE degree from a recognized institution.
  • Bilingual Spanish-speaking may be required.
