Organizational Unit: Catholic Social Services

Hours: 35 hours per week flexible with evening and weekend hours

Classification: Full Time

Location: Southwest Family Service Center, 6214 Grays Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19142


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide intensive case management services for newly arrived individuals with Refugee and SIV status. The Case Manager will respond to participant requests for assistance in a timely and professionally appropriate manner. As a CSS employee, the responsibility to follow project policies as stipulated in the grant contract, and as directed by the funder, is required. The Case Manager will consult with supervisor regularly on case progress and attend case management meetings regularly.


SUPERVISION GIVEN: by Administrator and Supervisor

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Maintain a clear understanding of the procedures of the U.S. Refugee Resettlement Program specified in the MRS Connect Database.

· Ensure all core services mandated through the Department of State Cooperative Agreement are provided to clients on caseload within allocated timeframes.

· Assist in securing safe, clean and affordable housing in the Philadelphia region for incoming arrivals.

· Assist with furnishing and setting up the home for arriving refugee families. With all items mandated by program guidelines.

· Welcome arriving refugees at the airport upon arrival and transport them to initial housing setting.

· Ensure participants are provided appropriate seasonal clothing and food or food allowance.

· Provide orientation to the program, its requirements and the new culture and environment.

· Evaluate participants through an intake and assessment process and develop a resettlement plan designed for

self-sufficiency.

· Maintain accurate and clear records/case files and follow-up with participants to ensure progression towards

goals.

· Assist participants in applying for social security cards, governmental and private assistance as needed.

· Register children in school if applicable to the caseload.

· Enroll participants in ESL classes and follow up with participants to encourage their regular

Attendance.

· Refer participants to employment services and follow up with participants and employment services to

ensure job placement and retention.

· Ensure participants receive all medical and related screenings within the allotted timeframes.

· Provide case management and support services to participants enrolled in the Matching Grant program.

· Assist eligible participants in the completion of Affidavits of Relationships and refugee interests.

· Contact area service providers to inform them of current program information and inquire about available services. Make referrals as appropriate.

· Cultivate and maintain relationships with social service providers, employers, and other community partners.

· Produce reports in a timely manner working within the mandated computer databases.

· Participate in staff meetings and in-service trainings.

· Perform other duties as assigned.


REPRESENTATIVE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of and orientation of philosophy of the Agency's policies as presented in Mission Statement.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to Catholic values and teachings.
  • Fluency in a second language - Arabic, French, Pashto, Dari, or Spanish is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Social work or related field
  • 2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a positive and professional relationship with co-workers, participants, and visitors; cultural sensitivity and the ability to relate well and effectively in a diverse work place with a diverse client population is required.
  • Ability to organize, efficiently document, and routinely update information.
  • Knowledge of community resources is preferred with a specific focus on immigrant and migrant population.
  • Some weekend work will be expected as determined by supervisor.
  • Valid PA driver's license and driver in good standing
