Nashville, United States BuildWitt Full time
Job DescriptionJob Description

BuildWitt is on a mission:

BuildWitt exists to better the Dirt World (those who build and maintain society's essential infrastructure) by helping companies attract, train, and retain great people.

One of the ways we do this is through BuildWitt Training—a custom-built software product with more than 1,500+ industry-specific training videos to help level up the next generation of Dirt World professionals. The Training Content Writer is a part of the team that creates world-class training for this platform.

As a team, we’re a close-knit, high-performing group that holds ourselves to a high standard and lives by our values. We take our mission and work seriously but not so much ourselves (one of our values is Lighten Up).

How you will get to help us do that in this role:

We believe the best training changes people for the better—their thinking and behavior. Working directly with our subject matter experts, you’ll develop and write industry-leading scripts for video format on a range of topics—from how to operate heavy machinery to machine control and concrete. It’s fascinating work that blends curiosity with content development and writing to deliver engaging micro-lessons (2-5 min) that help the heroes of the Dirt World do their jobs more safely and effectively.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it:

  1. Develop outlines and scripts for 25-30 engaging courses a year from start to finish that drive renewals, expansions, and new sales for BuildWitt Training.
  1. Use best practices behind Storybrand, the art of persuasion, and how learners learn to drive engagement, retention, and behavior change.
  1. Be a champion for quality, trustworthy content whether you’re writing it, helping the team shoot it, or reviewing videos in post production.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working collaboratively with our team and subject matter experts, develop approximately 15 videos (2-5 minutes each) per course, consistently delivering substantive content and hitting deadlines.
  • You’ll spend most of your time delving into topics with our subject matter experts, learning amazing new content, determining structure and flow, and writing clear and simple outlines.
  • You’ll also write things like assessment questions, conversation guides, course descriptions, and key takeaways to drive retention and discoverability on the platform and review videos in post production to ensure we’ve hit the mark.
  • You’ll attend shoots as needed to ensure all relevant content is captured and assist the production crew.

Required Hard Skills:

  • You’re a sharp editor and writer who writes simply and clearly.
  • You can take in a lot of technical information, sift through it, and quickly turn it into interesting, quality content.
  • You ask great questions and listen well.
  • You write like you talk, caring more about learner comprehension than polish or eloquence. (This isn’t writing for formal adult education or a corporate environment.)
  • You’re a utility player who jumps in to support wherever needed.
  • You’ve got at least 4 years professional writing/editing and content development experience.

Required Soft Skills:

  • Extreme ownership
  • A good sense of humor
  • Natural curiosity and passion to continuously learn and sharpen your skills
  • Humility to ask for help when needed and take out the trash when it’s full
  • Proactive and clear communication style
  • Eagerness to collaborate and give/receive feedback with grace
  • Strong desire to make the world a better place
  • We’re a start-up and we all wear a lot of hats. Flexibility and a positive attitude are a must.

What’s in it for you:

  • A really fun gig with a high-caliber team
  • Dirty boots — see cool massive earth-work, demolition, mining, and construction projects
  • Work for a company that cares for, trusts, and empowers their people
  • Remote work and flexible hours
  • Competitive base salary
  • Multiple healthcare options
  • Affordable dental and vision plans
  • Open PTO — we encourage everyone to take a break when they need to
  • 401K Match, with vesting the quarter following hire date

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each key responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed above are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

We are proud to offer equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, disability, or veteran status.
