Job Summary: We are looking for a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator specializing in utilities to join our construction team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience operating heavy machinery, such as excavators, bulldozers, backhoes, and loaders, specifically for utility installation and maintenance projects. This role requires a deep understanding of underground utilities, including water, sewer, gas, and electrical systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Equipment Operation: Safely and efficiently operate heavy equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, backhoes, and loaders, for the installation, maintenance, and repair of utility systems.
- Utility Installation: Excavate trenches, grade areas, and perform other tasks necessary for the installation of water, sewer, gas, and electrical lines according to project specifications.
- Site Preparation: Prepare construction sites by removing obstacles, clearing land, and ensuring the site is ready for utility installation.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and ensure the safety of the worksite for all team members.
- Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret blueprints, site plans, and other technical documents to determine the exact locations for utility installation and to ensure proper alignment and grading.
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on heavy equipment, including inspections, lubrication, and minor repairs, to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
- Problem Solving: Identify and address any issues or challenges that arise during utility installation, such as obstructions, soil conditions, or equipment malfunctions.
- Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, utility crews, and other team members to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, maintenance, and any issues encountered during operations.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience operating heavy equipment, with a focus on utility installation and maintenance.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in operating various types of heavy equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, backhoes, and loaders.
- Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of underground utility systems, including water, sewer, gas, and electrical lines, as well as excavation and grading techniques.
- Licenses/Certifications: Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) and heavy equipment operator certification. Additional certifications related to utility work are a plus.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, digging, and operating machinery for extended periods in various weather conditions.
- Attention to Detail: High level of precision in following project specifications and ensuring the safety and accuracy of utility installations.
- Communication: Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team environment.
