George Fox University's Graduate School of Counseling announces a non-tenure or tenure-track faculty position, set to begin August of 2024. This position requires a passion for teaching, supervision and mental health practice within CACREP-approved degree programs. Professors teach all truth as God's truth, integrating all fields of learning around the person and work of Jesus Christ, bringing the divine revelations through sense, reason, and intuition to the confirming test of Scripture. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Teaching in-person synchronous and digital synchronous courses within the curriculum of the Graduate School of Counseling.
  • Serving as Course Lead for designated courses, and developing courses when needed.
  • Understanding and abiding by CACREP standards as a faculty member, professor, and advisor.
  • Participating in student screenings and faculty meetings.
  • Advising students.
  • Developing and sustaining an ongoing program of relevant scholarship.
  • Participating in the work of the department and the university, including serving on university committees as needed.
  • Communicating effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students, and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.
  • By actions, words, and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.
  • Demonstrating awareness, respect, and appreciation for diversity of culture, background, race, sex, political views, expressions of faith, etc. and works well with a variety of people.
  • Other duties as assigned.

We're looking for candidates who have:

  • A Ph.D. in counselor education and supervision from a CACREP program.
    • Applicants who are A.B.D. may be considered, but must have an earned Ph.D. by the time of appointment.
  • Mental health professional licensing or license-eligible in the State of Oregon (LPC or LMFT).
  • Have at least one area of clinical expertise; candidates with a Play Therapy specialty are preferred.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching.
  • A record of relevant scholarship or a scholarship agenda that is current and active.
  • A commitment to working with a diverse population of students with demonstrated experience in this area.
  • A personal commitment to Jesus Christ and express their Christian testimony in a church. In addition, employees agree to live in agreement with the Community Lifestyle Statement and affirm the theological commitments expressed in the Statement of Faith.

Salary and rank:

  • Appointment at the Assistant Professor level is anticipated, though candidates with significant teaching experience at previous institutions may be considered for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor. Salary and benefits are competitive with comparable institutions.

Job information:

  • Primary Work Location: Portland Center
    • This is a resident / in-person faculty position, located within the Graduate School of Counseling at the Portland Center campus.
    • Candidates must be willing to teach both in-person synchronous and digital synchronous courses, and attend events on both the Portland and Newberg campuses as required.
  • Working Conditions: Physical requirements are those of a typical office environment.
