Austin, United States Paradromics, Inc. Full time
Job DescriptionJob DescriptionAbout Paradromics
We are building a direct data interface with the brain to provide technology solutions to unmet medical challenges. A revolutionary leap beyond today’s research-grade brain computer interfaces (BCI), our Connexus® Direct Data Interface (DDI) collects neural signals at an industry-leading high data-rate and is designed for long-term daily use. Our first clinical application will enable severely motor-impaired people to communicate and independently use a computer, translating their neural signals into synthesized speech, text, and cursor control. We will continue to expand the capabilities of our massively scalable platform to support a pipeline of future applications that could benefit millions.

The Role
Paradromics is looking for a Sr. Product Development Engineer to contribute to the hardware development of key components of our neural implant system and its associated verification and validation. This work will include the design of implantable medical devices, hermetic packages containing active electronics, and surgical instrumentation, as well as fixtures for developing and improving manufacturing processes and testing components and infrastructure to support verification and validation activities.  Coordination with internal and external resources will be required to manufacture prototypes and transfer designs to manufacturing.  Close coordination across teams, including others in Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality will be essential. Therefore, excellent communication and interpersonal skills are crucial to accel in this role.  If you like big challenges, working at the frontier of human technology, and have worked high-performance hardware in the past, we would like to hear from you.

Required Education and Experience
  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Eng., Biomedical Eng., or related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years related work experience.

Required Qualifications
  • In-depth understanding of 3D mechanical design and Solidworks.
  • Experience with designs from concept through production, either using in-house fabrication or coordinated with external vendors.
  • Demonstrated practical understanding of GD&T and dimensional metrology.
  • Experience designing in a highly regulated quality control environment (ISO 13485 or FDA QSR).
  • Experience designing and executing experimental methods for bench characterization and verification/validation testing.
  • Excellent verbal and oral communication skills.
  • Very strong analytical and debugging skills.
  • Ability to produce well-written technical reports and documentation.
  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced organization with shifting responsibilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment with a diverse group of people.
  • Organization and ability to attain results on several projects simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Expertise with finite element simulations.
  • In-depth understanding of biocompatible materials and other considerations for materials and methods used in medical devices.
  • Experience designing medical devices with implantable electronics (DBS, LVAT, IPG, spinal cord stimulator, etc.).
  • Experience with medical leads and connectors (e.g., Bal Seal®).
  • Experience with sterile packaging and sterilization methods.
  • Experience designing surgical techniques with validation via cadaveric lab experience.
  • Experience with overmolding or insert molding.
  • Experience coordinating with 3rd parties for manufacturing and testing services.
  • Familiarity with common software programs (e.g., Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and GSuite platform.
