Position Description: Gallery Manager has supervisory and management responsibility
for Work of Art staff and participants through direct implementation of program objectives.
Gallery Manager oversees both studio and gallery operations.


Hours
Monday thru Fri 8hrs./day, 8am-4pm; 40hrs./week; Non-Exempt
*Days and hours may be flexible based on needs of the business and participant schedules

Duties and Responsibilities:
A. Program Organization
1. Participate with staff, participants, and Program Director in the evaluation and revision of the daily operations to meet changing participant needs.
2. In conjunction with Resource Assistant and Program Director, receive and screen referrals for potential participant placements into the program.
3. In conjunction with the Program Director, screen and interview applicants for open staff positions. Oversee hiring paperwork.
4. Schedule Work of Art Studios and Gallery staff working hours, vacation requests and personal leaves, taking into account participant and program priorities.
5. Coordinate daily program staffing to meet individual participant needs.
6. Coordinate classes, workshop staffing, studio supply purchases, and class curriculum.
7. Be familiar with Southside Unlimited policy manual and its implementation with staff and participants.
8. Oversee and train staff on Participant’s Individual Service Plans, and implementation of ISP goals.
9. Oversee and train Resource Assistant on Person Centered Plan (PCP) sequence and ensure all PCPs are completed.
10. Meet weekly with the Program Director to give updates on program development, Gallery operations, and quality assurance issues.
11. Facilitate and lead weekly Work of Art Studio staff meetings to promote team building and studio continuity. 
12. Develop in-service training schedule to ensure maximum growth for staff as they learn to better meet participant needs in areas of artistic growth, self-advocacy and self-actualization, job skills development, etc.
13. Communicate expectations clearly to staff and participants. Address staff/studio/participant issues using clear, assertive communication.
14. Oversee participant attendance and POS requests to fit participant needs and the studio availability. Provide artistic consultation to art staff and on-going feedback to Program Director.
15. Other duties as requested by the Program Director.


B. Lesson Planning and Studio Preparation
1. Maintain and oversee daily schedule of workshops and open studio assignments, and participant goals and objectives.
2. Encourage self-advocacy within the studio.
3. Help artists expand their individual artistic and expressive talents.
4. Develop new curriculum in order to keep artists invigorated.
5. Focus on artistic techniques, which make artists more successful in their art endeavors.
6. Make requests for studio and workshop supplies to Program Director via purchase orders.
7. Keep work area clean, orderly, safe and accessible to all participants.


C. Specific Art Studios—Minimum Requirements
1. Have the technical skills necessary to instruct participants in all relevant studio media.
2. Teach participants the benefits of collaborative work environments as well as individual self-development.
3. Know how to use and maintain a kiln if applicable.
4. Promote self-critiquing and peer-critiquing in a positive manner.


D. Support and Training to Participants
1. Implement individual participant needs and progress toward self-sufficiency.

3. Promote the development of participant self-esteem and problem solving abilities by working individually with participant goals for ISPs.
4. Intervene in unexpected crisis situations by assessing the emergency; prioritizing the needs of the participant and acting in a way that respects the dignity of the participant involved while attending to the crisis situation at hand.
5. Provide all assistance with commissioned art development, production, and placement.
6. Other tasks as assigned by Program Supervisor and/or Director of Programs.


E. Site Support
1. Be familiar with and able to act as a substitute with all studios, utilizing studio curriculums when working in studios.
2. Act as a Job Coach and utilize task analyses when supporting participants working in the Gallery.
3. Completes assessment tools necessary to determine individual participant needs.


F. Community Relations
1. Educate the general public about the talents and abilities of people with developmental challenges.
2. Network as needed with participant support systems.
3. Network with other professionals in the art field.
4. Act as program liaison to Regional Center staff, residential staff, program staff, other day program staff, participant advocacy groups, and the public at large.
5. Consult with Program Director on development of public art projects.
6. Oversee development and maintenance of community art shows to display and sell participant artwork including delegating and or/transporting/coordinating artwork to be transported and hung at various locations.
7. Find other gallery and art shows to display participant artwork.
8. Obtain Art staff and participant input and knowledge in marketing participant artwork.
9. Oversee studios’ social media profiles in cooperation with the Program Director.
10. Oversee development and creation of commission art pieces in conjunction with Art Program Director.

11. Oversee management for the Work of Art Gallery in cooperation with the Program Director.
12. Train staff and participants how to work the gallery.
13. Oversee public outreach for workshops and open studios including maintenance and dissemination of marketing materials and training staff in customer service policies.
14. Manage Studio schedule of workshops and open studio drop-ins; communicate issues to the Program Director in a timely manner.
15. Be familiar with the Work of Art Studio Use Agreement and its implementation with staff, participants, and the public.
16. Keep track of and give gallery finance envelopes/receipts to appropriate admin personnel.
17. Manage gallery committee process to ensure regular rotation of art in gallery. Delegate and/or transport/coordinate artwork transported and hung at the gallery. Inventory and clearly label gallery items.
18. Report observed and needed repairs or maintenance for gallery to the Program Director.
19. Report office and janitorial supplies needed for gallery or programs to the Program Director.
20. Submit all paperwork and follow through on assigned deadlines in a timely manner.


G. Professional Training and Development
1. Attend CPR classes First Aid Seminars as required by agency.
2. Attend scheduled agency in-service programs.
3. Attend agency staff retreats.
4. Attend scheduled community training or conferences as required by agency.
5. Attend scheduled participant Self-Advocacy conferences as requested by Director of Programs.

I. Applicant Requirements
1. BA or MA degree in the Art, Music, Performing Arts, or related field.
2. Highly skilled artist preferred (may substitute skill level for education).
3. Professionally recognized practicing artist.
4. Proficiencies in ceramics, painting, drawing, or relevent art subject for the current gallery studios.
5. Versed in Fine Art, Art History, current art sale trends and related experiences.
6. Previous teaching experience preferred.
7. Previous experience with people who have developmental challenges preferred.
8. A.A. Degree in Human Services related field or at least three years experience in the field of developmental disabilities preferred.
9. Effective verbal and written communication skills required. 
10. Possession of a valid driver’s license and proof of current auto insurance and possession of reliable car required.
11. Possesses skills to use computers and the Internet to email, scan, present, and file reports or other needed documentation.
12. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs (Word, Excel, and Outlook) required.
