Southside’s Work of Art program is a vibrant, progressive venture where all people of all abilities and interests work side-by-side to discover their artistic voice. Work of Art is a branch of Southside Unlimited, a non-profit that creates opportunities for artistic expression, personal progress, and active citizenship for adults with developmental disabilities. We are looking for the right person to join our team 

In the role of Art Instructor you will be working and teaching 1 on 1 with artists on their art projects, problem-solving teaching strategies with the team, researching local community art events and shows, creating new workshops, helping with customers and writing daily progress notes. This position will also be responsible for coordinating, writing, and facilitating all yearly meetings and paperwork for participants. You will be part of a team that uses an innovative and person-centered approach to support adults with developmental disabilities in leading productive and meaningful lives in their community.

Southside's Work of Art program prides itself in incorporating the public through multiple community oriented art endeavors such as workshops and inclusive events. Salary: $19/hour (guaranteed 37 hours/week) with incentives & increases after every other year.

Hours: Full-time, Monday-Friday between the hours of 8:00am - 4:00 pm.

• May occasionally work additional hours and weekends based on business needs. (Workshops and Events)

Skills required:

• BA in Art or strong background in various art mediums including painting/drawing, digital art, and mixed media.
• Experience in Human Services and/or Teaching strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of computers and familiarity with Adobe Suite.
• Strong verbal and written communication and listening skills.
• Problem-solving skills and the ability to think outside the box.
• Research and develop new teaching techniques.
• Able to break things down so that people can learn at their own pace.
• Professionally recognized practicing artist.

Required to work:

• BA in Art or related field.
• Highly skilled artists preferred (may substitute skill level for education).
• CPR/AED/First Aid Certified. 
• Driver’s License, proof of car insurance and vehicle registration.
• Clear a background check.
