Qualifications:

  1. High School diploma or GED. Experience managing finances.
  2. Good communication skills, verbal & written.
  3. Desire to learn about Social Security & State benefits.
  4. Ability to satisfactorily pass a credit check.
  5. Ability to obtain Suitability Clearance from the Center for Suitability & Personal Security after completing full Certified Work Incentive Counselor (CWIC) certification.

Skills Required:

  1. Candidate must possess strong computer skills including experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, databases and/or case management information systems and Web Based software.
  2. Adept at using internet searches to find and research related benefit information.
  3. Superior mathematical skills, analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  4. Must possess excellent organization, analytical and systems’ management abilities; ability to pay attention to detail, handle multiple priorities, and facilitate communication among different programs and disciplines.
  5. Interviewing and partnership skills.
  6. Disability and cultural sensibility skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting directly to the Advocacy Department Director, the Benefit Advisor is required to perform the following duties:

To assist in the management of Social Security benefits on behalf of individuals who have chosen Arc to act as their representative payee.

  1. To assist in making certain all appropriate reports are filed with the Social Security Administration in order to maintain benefit eligibility.
  2. Meet with individuals for whom Arc serves as Representative Payee.
  3. To assist in the management of assets Arc has been named as Trustee, Conservator, and Guardian of the Estate for.
  1. Cooperate with other departments within the agency to assure that services are being delivered in a person-centered manner and policies and procedures of the agency reflect the same.
  2. Participate in all appropriate meetings.
  1. Maintain good working relations and cooperation with other department directors and staff.
  2. Advise beneficiaries on how their work activity could impact their various Federal and State benefits.
  3. Develop accurate, individualized, and detailed written Benefit Summary & Analysis reports, as well as Work Incentives Plans, per SSA guidelines, for clients.
  4. Encourage and support accurate and timely earned income reporting to SSA to reduce the size or likelihood of overpayments for clients.
  5. Obtain accurate and document client contacts and efforts in a database system.
  6. Ensure confidentiality of all beneficiaries’ information received or provided.
  7. When necessary, refer clients to other agencies for additional services.
  8. Complete annual Certified Work Incentive Counselor certification after the initial certification is obtained.
  9. Other duties and assigned.

Pay rate starts at $19.50 per hour, may vary considering education and experience in the field.


Monday through Friday, 8:30a-4:30p
