This Opportunity

Versar Global Solutions is seeking a full-time Lead Highway Maintenance Technician. The position is responsible for performing general maintenance and leading other highway technicians on the assigned highway maintenance project.

Your Impact

  • Oversees work of assigned maintenance team employees.
  • Addresses minor discipline problems with team members; refers more severe cases to roadway maintenance.
  • Assists with the planning and preparation of onboarding for new maintenance team members.
  • Works and communicates with clients and customers, providing polite, quality professional service.
  • Displays a high level of initiative, effort, attention to detail, and commitment and ensures the same from the maintenance team.
  • Communicates goals and deadlines with the team and ensures expectations are met or exceeded.
  • Assists team members with technical issues or advanced problems with given assignments.
  • Cleans and grades ditches, drainage structures, highway road shoulders, and slopes.
  • Repair work including, but not limited to, repair of fences, sign repair, litter debris removal, and other highway maintenance activities including emergency response
  • Use all equipment safely.
  • Completes landscape maintenance duties, such as mowing, chemical and fertilizer application, weed control, spring clean-up, fall clean-up, trimming, and pruning.
  • Operates various mechanical equipment, including but not limited to bed edgers, commercial mowers (ztr’s and possible bush hogs), blowers, dump trailers, chain saws, and line trimmers.
  • equipment care and notify management of needed repairs.
  • Performs other duties as required

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • 18+ years of age
  • Must be able to communicate with managers and coworkers in English effectively
  • Possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License
  • Reliable transportation to and from the Company office
  • Ability to lift to 50 lbs. and carry up to 25 lbs. regularly
  • Ability to walk, stand, or sit for extended periods
  • Communicates effectively orally and in writing
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and daily activities and meet timelines.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate
  • Ability to identify issues and to determine repairs that are needed.
  • Five (5) years of highway maintenance experience strongly preferred
  • Willingness to work multiple shifts and varying hours, including excellent, weekends, and overtime
  • Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
  • Ability to work along local roadways, interstates, and or/highways with commuter traffic passing by at varying rates of speed
  • Ability to adhere to on-call rotation scheduling requirements
  • Obtain MOT certificate (coursework and certification paid for by the company)
  • Have or can obtain and maintain a DOT Med Card
  • Successful results of pre-employment screenings, including federal background check, MVR, and drug screen
  • Comply with the Company's Drug and Alcohol policy
  • Must be authorized to work in the US or will be approved by the successful candidate’s start date

Preferred Qualifications

  • Possess a working knowledge of standard horticultural practices, including but not limited to mowing, weed eating, corrective pruning, and fertilization.
  • CDL A or B
  • MOT Certified
  • Agricultural Pesticide Applicator’s License
  • Ability to drive manual transmission
  • Experience operating heavy equipment
  • 5+ years of experience working in roadway operations, construction, utilities, or landscaping
