Summary:
The role of the Co-Teacher is to learn from the Lead Teacher, Program Director and IEP/Curriculum Coordinator, and to use the knowledge and skill he/she obtains to support the Lead Teacher in managing classroom responsibilities. The Co-Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in the development, monitoring and maintenance of educational and behavior analytic programming for an assigned student caseload. The Co-Teacher will assist with assessing, designing, implementing and training staff on delegated aspects of programmatic supports within each student program and, as an multidisciplinary team member, collaborate with and train staff in evidence-based practices. With guidance from the Program Director, Lead Teacher, and IEP/Curriculum Coordinator, the Co-Teacher will participate in a leadership role within the organization, and in on-boarding and training for Instructional Assistants.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Leadership:

● Works with Lead Teachers, Directors, Specialists and Instructional Assistants (IAs) to implement student programming while modeling the core philosophies of TJS.

● Oversees delegated functions related to the classroom.

● Occasionally leads and provides documentation of weekly clinicals.

● Provides Behavior Skills Training for staff to implement treatment programs and collect data for each goal with fidelity.

● Supports the Lead Teacher in supervising a caseload of case managers toward completing their case manager responsibilities.

● Attends all staff training, meetings, and occasional Lead Teacher meetings.

● Be a positive role model for students and co-workers.

● Be responsible for overall classroom culture, including develop ongoing team building activities

● Coordinates with the Lead Teacher to establish regular 1:1 meetings with and observation of Instructional Assistants, and provide direct, positive and constructive feedback regarding program fidelity, communication, and interpersonal skills.

● Meets with the Lead Teacher, Program Director, and/or Specialists to review student progress, observations, training topics, individual staff, student, and family needs.

● In collaboration with the Lead Teacher, Program Director and HR, establishes a training schedule for new Instructional Assistants.

● Supervises staff who are in behavior certification programs, at the direction of the Program Director. (Applicable to BCBAs only.)

● Ensures that all classroom staff are up-to-date on physical intervention, safety, and medication administration certifications as provided by an approved provider ( i.e. CALM, CPR, school nurse), and that they remain proficient in performing these duties.

● Supports Lead Teacher in coordinating communication with parents and districts for students on caseload, as requested. Programmatic Oversight

● For students on caseload, collaborate with Lead Teachers, Program Directors, Speech Language Pathologist(s), Occupational Therapist(s), and Psychologist, families, and classroom staff for creation and implementation of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) and Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP), and support with the oversight of student programming related to all goals and objectives.

● Teams with the Lead Teacher to create teaching protocols and data collection systems for each IEP and BIP goal.

● Conducts regular data analysis and work with Lead Teacher/Program Director to ensure appropriate treatment, identify needs and update interventions, and provide program implementation feedback and coaching.

● Supports the Lead Teacher to complete or coordinate assessments in preparation for evaluations and IEP/BIPs, or to assess ongoing progress.

● Creates, manages, supervises and revises the classroom schedule as requested.

● Monitors progress on goals and team with the Lead Teacher to revise programming as necessary for all students on caseload.

● In collaboration with the IEP team, develops and oversees curriculum for instruction of independent living, community, social, academic, life and vocational skills for students on caseload.

● Completes case management responsibilities for 1-2 students, as deemed necessary by Lead Teacher.

● Ensures materials are present for each student on caseload and delegate to case managers if materials need to be developed.

● Ensures groups are being scheduled, planned and run throughout each week.

● Collaborates with the Lead Teacher or Program Director to create and deliver family training and coordinate home visits for each student, as necessary.

● As designated by the Lead Teacher or Program Director, collaborates with the Enrollment Team to observe potential students and identify initial assessments, materials, and environmental modifications prior to enrollment.

● Manages student records and participates in housekeeping duties to maintain compliance with DHS, CDE, Health and school wide policies.

● Ensures accurate and timely submission of incident reports to the Program Director.

● Teams with Lead Teacher to manage and oversee the classroom budget.

● Reviews incident reports and instances of physical management with the Program Director and others involved, and revise crisis plans as necessary.

● Performs other duties assigned by Directors. QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. ● A commitment to working with young people with developmental disabilities.

● Four-year college degree with Special Education Teaching license or a willingness and ability to obtain Alternative Teacher Licensure within 1 year of starting the Co-Teaching position.

● PLUS two years experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.

● Knowledge in Applied Behavior Analysis and knowledge of evidence-based practices for children with autism spectrum disorder. Certification as a BCBA/BCaBA, or current work toward obtaining this credential is ideal.

● Minimum age of 21.

● Maturity and reliability.

● Good driving record and valid Colorado Driver’s License. Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

The Lead Teacher will write business correspondence and will effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public. Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Certificates and Licenses: Four-year college degree with Special Education Teaching license or a willingness and ability to obtain Alternative Teacher Licensure within 1 year of starting the Co-Teaching position. Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Computer/Technical Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software, Google Suite software and knowledge of data collection platform software.
