Department:          Colusa Indian Health Clinic         

Reports to:            Director of Clinic Operations

Classification:       Non-Exempt

Position Status:     Regular, Full Time


POSITION SUMMARY

The Medical Receptionist provides office support services that will create an environment where every person feels welcomed and is shown respect and empathy.


The incumbent is expected to work in accordance with the mission, purpose, and values of the Colusa Indian Community Council.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Maintain personal appearance, workstation and waiting area in compliance with clinical confidentiality and patient service protocols;
  2. Answer telephones courteously, make appointments and take messages according to protocols;
  3. Greet patients and visitors warmly at the front desk and provide both registration and exit support services;
  4. Performs medical interpretation/translation for patients and their families, including in-group setting, such as family conferences;
  5. Make notations in the patient's chart indicating the origin of the request for interpretation or translation, the nature of the service provided (such as interpreting treatment orders or pharmacy instructions), and an assessment of the patient's understanding and level of acceptance of the information;
  6. Translates correspondence, medical histories, medical consent forms, medical procedures and instructions, legal documents, manuals, brochures and other pertinent documents as necessary;
  7. Assess patient/family comprehension of "informed consent" as needed. Advise physician/patient care staff of any need for clarification;
  8. Document insurance eligibility and inform patients of the estimated services cost and their treatment plan payment requirements;
  9. Prepare clinical records for patients’ visit with the provider;
  10. Process route slips and return to Billing Coordinator;
  11. Balance daily cash receipts and cash bag;
  12. Assist clinical staff in maintenance and filing of completed patient records;
  13. Collaborate with all coworkers in performing duties required to provide patient-focused services that meet all regulatory and licensing standards;
  14. Maintain high confidentiality standards at all times.  Is required to sign a confidentiality statement upon acceptance of employment;
  15. May perform other duties commensurate with the functions and level of the position.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: A High School graduate or equivalent
  • Experience: One (1) year or more of experience working in a similar setting
  • Licensing: Maintains current CPR certification
  • Language: Bi-lingual in Spanish

  • Familiar with Microsoft Office;
  • Medical terminology knowledge desirable;
  • Familiar with and flexible in performing all office support functions.
  • Demonstrates cooperation and consideration of other health team members and peers.
  • Must be organized, flexible and versatile with the ability to function effectively in stressful situations;
  • Must be eager and enthusiastic in promoting the general philosophy of the facility;
  • Dedicated hard worker with ability to report to work on a daily basis.

  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time at a computer and/or telephone;
  • May occasionally lift and/or move up to (25-50) pounds.

  • Work is performed in an office setting which is well-lit, ventilated, and temperature controlled. The noise level is usually low to moderate.
  • The incumbent routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, photocopiers, and fax machines.
