We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Quality Engineer to oversee the production of brass ammunition casings with a commitment to excellence and precision. In this role, you will be pivotal in establishing and implementing processes, policies, and acceptance criteria to ensure strict adherence to specifications across our entire facility.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Collection and statistical analysis of data related to internal and supplier quality, leading of corrective action, problem solving (e.g. Six-Sigma) and improvement opportunities such as manufacturing & design engineering, quality, supply chain and production.
  • Provide expertise, experience and knowledge of the practice of quality assurance and quality control programs and systems.
  • Ensure all product complies with governmental specifications/standards (ISO, Military Specifications and Standards, Technical Data Packages, ASTM specifications) and initiate COC on new development.
  • Provide expertise in quality system compliance and customer specific requirements and product.
  • Represent the company and develop related quality presentations as the Management Representative for functions related to quality customer audits. Will include travel to customers and suppliers.
  • Develop, provide and maintain work instructions on assembly and testing of assigned product lines and perform associated training. Initiate production part approval paperwork (PPAP) on new development or changed production parts. Provide the necessary data to manufacturing relative to observed errors, tendencies, repeated defects and changing customer requirements (receiving, first piece setup, in-process, final audit).
  • Maintain product line specific quality records and submit to customers as required by contract.
  • Initiate, review, approve and maintain systems for all quality requirements, external engineering standards, specifications and manufacturing feasibility.
  • Evaluate, recommend, select, develop, plan and approve product drawings and routings before release to manufacturing.
  • Contribute to the recommendation, selection approval and communicate with new and existing vendors regarding vendor or AMMO engineering, manufacturing and quality concerns. Communicate with existing suppliers/customers in short term complaint situations and coordinate efforts to ensure effective corrective actions is implemented.
  • Perform AMMO internal audits as an ISO 9000 auditor.
  • Maintain an organized, clean and safe work area including overall quality, cleanliness, efficiency, maintenance and organization of the entire quality lab and quality area while remaining in compliance with the 5S system.
  • Convey a positive company image by conducting day to day duties in a professional and positive manner.
  • Act as a role model and leader for all employees.
  • Assist in the elimination of unsafe acts and injuries.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and Certification as a Quality Engineer, manufacturing or industrial engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years related experience and/or training.

Minimum Skills and Experience:

  • A thorough understanding of drawings and governmental specifications/standards (IATF, Military Specifications and Standards, Technical Data Packages, ASTM specifications).
  • Strong background in statistically based problem solving and process improvement (e.g., six-sigma) as well as experience working with US and International government quality assurance representatives.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, including working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerances (GD&T).
  • Detailed knowledge and experience in design for manufacture/assembly concepts.
  • Working knowledge and experience in problem solving/root cause analysis.
  • Detailed knowledge of Military Standards and practices related to quality planning.
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Suite, ERP systems such as PLEX and working knowledge of ISO Quality Management System.
  • Experience and working knowledge of six sigma black belt.
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to analyze application requirements, provide failure analysis, select components and make recommendations to meet system requirements.
  • Ability to lead and motivate people in a team environment, balance the demands of several work areas and to coordinate closely related work of a variety of employees.
  • Strong knowledge of production, inventory and safety.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills.
  • Skilled in performing detailed work with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors, customers, co-workers, and management.
  • Must be able to influence change & lead those who oppose change.
  • Ability to make quick and accurate decisions and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong Microsoft Office Suite and written communication skills.
