Short Term Housing Program: CAMBA’s Short Term Housing Program (STHP) provides 35 units of congregate and transitional housing to PLWHA who are homeless or at serious risk of homelessness. There are 7 clients residing at CAMBA’s congregate facility located at 27 Winthrop Street and 28 community apartments. In addition, there are 19 clients residing at 23 and 25 Winthrop. Winthrop Houses provide a model of service that addresses the interrelated problems of HIV and homelessness. Through a congregate residence and community apartments the programs we provide transitional and emergency housing, case management support, and housing readiness training in a supportive environment, which will help clients develop the skills to find and maintain permanent, stable housing.

Position: Maintenance Worker

Reports To: Program Manager

Location: 27 Winthrop, Brooklyn, NY 11225

What The Maintenance Worker Does:

  • Clean rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, rest rooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, and other work areas.
  • Perform weekly room inspections for all congregate housing units.
  • Sweep, scrub, wax, and polish floors.
  • Wash walls, ceiling, woodwork, windows, door panels, and sills.
  • Ensures that bathroom supplies are always replenished.
  • Removes trash and brings trash and waste to disposal area and consolidate for pickup.
  • Observe and report irregularities such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes, and security doors left unlocked.
  • Keep management inform of dangerous situations.
  • Ensure that all rooms have operable smoke detectors.
  • Get rooms ready for occupancy within 24 hours.
  • Ensure that rooms are equipped with required items at all times.
  • Maintain professional relationships with clients and client confidentiality.

Minimum Education/Experience Required:

  • Sufficient education and technical expertise to comprehend written and oral instructions (work orders); basic math to accomplish maintenance tasks and to document accomplished tasks.

Other Requirements:

  • Good written & verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Cleaning experience.

Compensation: $35,000 annually
When salary ranges are listed, the range would represent the low and high end for the applicable position & program. The salary offered would be based on various factors unique to each program and candidate. This includes but is not limited to experience, education, budget and/or program size, internal equity, skills and other factors that may be required for the position and organization.

Status: Full-time (35 hours per week)
