Please be advised that Six Mile - Nika JV and its subcontractors are rejecting the collective bargaining agreement between the predecessor contractor and Teamsters Local 959. Accordingly, employment with members of the Six Mile - Nika JV or its subcontractors under its contract for Base Operation Support Services at the United States Coast Guard Base in Kodiak will not be subject to the terms and conditions of employees' previous collective bargaining agreement with Choctaw Defense Services. Employment with members of the Six Mile-Nika JV or its subcontractors under the Base Operation Support Services Contract at the United States Coast Guard Base in Kodiak will be subject to new terms and conditions of employment, subject to certain requirements under Section 4(c) the Service Contract Act or as otherwise required by applicable law.
JOB OVERVIEW
Six Mile, LLC (SML) is seeking an Environmental Technician to provide support to a base operations support services contract in Kodiak, AK This position is responsible ensure the health and safety of the base by performing the collection, processing, and packaging of all hazardous waste on the Base.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
- Responsible for the collection, processing and packaging of all hazardous waste on the Base, including legal classification, required packaging, and proper labeling of all containers.
- Ability to be extremely detail-oriented and meet a high level of quality control regarding highly regulated hazardous wastes.
- Ability to learn and follow all ACA, EPA, NRC, IMDG, DOT, State, rules and regulations regarding hazardous wastes being shipped.
- Ability to complete all documentation and tracking with a high degree of accuracy.
- Serves as a station Spill Team Member and is on call for spill response as directed.
- Pick up hazardous waste and associated paperwork from various departments on the Base, and ensure the quality of information on Hazardous Waste Identification Sheet (HWIS).
- Perform certain classification qualitative testing on items (pH testing, flash point testing, etc.).
- Perform lab packing duties if applicable.
- Perform safe operation of an articulating forklift (Case M4K).
- Quality check all shipping containers and correct discrepancies immediately.
- Assist the Solid Waste Department as needed.
- Ability to supply manual labor (shoveling) for several hours if needed.
- Write spill reports, if applicable.
- Regular use of drum dollies, cargo straps, banding, shovels, pallet jacks, power tools and other tools.
- Position requires constant physical activity, including bending, consistently lifting and carrying 50 - 70 pounds, reaching and gripping.
- Perform ancillary support to station Spill Team, including on-call duties after hours and possible night shift duties.
- Agrees with and adheres to the Standard Operating Procedures and tasking responsibilities of the Waste department.
- Able to work in a team unit composed of diverse personalities.
- Displays self-motivation in physically challenging and atypical work environment; position is comprised of approximately 70% outdoor tasking.
- Able to maintain flexibility and a positive attitude in a dynamic, fast-paced work setting.
- Performs duties in support of Operations Division metrics (as provided by supervisor).
- Supports the achievement of USCG metrics, whether metrics are directly or indirectly, affected by this position's work activities.
- Complies with all USCG Environmental Health & Safety, and Quality Assurance, requirements and goals. Provides documentation to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legal documentation.
- Works to achieve USCG goals and contractual commitments.
- Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
ABOUT YOU
Requirements
- College degree (4 additional years of experience will substitute)
- Strong computer software experience
- Able to lift 50-70 pounds consistently and wear a respirator
- Valid Driver's License and Passport
- Physically able to be active for 9 hours daily
- Must be able to lift the safety regulation maximum and perform functions requiring repetitive motion required
- Able to relocate to Kodiak, AK
- Ability to pass a background and drug screening.
Preferred
- 5 year of Hazardous Materials shipping/characterization or reporting experience ' OR ' 3 years of Environmental remediation.
- 1 year of High School Chemistry or equivalent
- 1 quarter of college General Chemistry
- College degree in Chemistry or Environmental Science
- OSHA HazWOPER 40-Hour, current
- Familiarity with power tools and machinery
- Equipment operating experience
