We are currently looking for a full time or part time well organized, compassionate, highly motivated, Shelter Support Staff for the IHN program at our Grand Rapids office. As a Shelter Support Staff member your main function will be to support the transition of families who are experiencing homelessness to housing security. This position’s main function is to assist the work of Family Promise at our shelter locations and support the case management team. Candidates for this position should be available for more than one shift, and be aware that nights and weekends may be necessary.

You’ll Get To: 

 

  • Responsible for operating the facility independently
  • Provide support to families in shelter
  • Prepare and serve meals to families in shelter
  • Responsible for maintaining cleanliness of the facility
  • Provide transportation for families using agency van to and from host sites
  • Document family files and case notes
  • Assist in data entry and program follow up reports
  • Assist and coordinate in-kind donations with families and partner agencies
  • Demonstrates the ability to work with a culturally diverse population
  • Provides support with Family Promise special events as needed
  • Assess inventory of basic need items on-site and restock items as needed
  • Gather and disperse food and clothing donations to families
  • Build and support relationships with donors


Our Ideal Candidate Will Have/Be: 

 

  • Bachelor degree preferred, equivalent work experience considered
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Supportive of our organizational mission and of faith-based initiatives and programming 
  • Ability to work all shifts, as needed to support the operations of the shelter
  • Volunteer experience with non-profits preferred
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Must be able to work independently, as well as effectively within a team.  Must be able to work well with colleagues, board members, and volunteers.
  • Must be detail-oriented and able to execute flawlessly on projects in a fast-paced, often pressured environment. 
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word/Excel/Gmail/google drive. 
  • Lifting of materials of up to 40 pounds may be necessary
  • Weekend and Evening Shifts may be required
