Summary of the function
We are seeking a highly motivated Process Engineer to join our team. The position will focus on optimizing productivity, efficiency, and quality within our packaging department through continuous improvement initiatives. Evaluate downtime and determine root cause analysis as well as an action plan for resolution. There will also be opportunities to work on projects in other departments as well, such as production, protein, and maintenance, and warehouse. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in process improvement methodologies, training techniques, experience with high-speed packaging lines and a passion for driving operational excellence.
Responsibilities:
- Track and analyze performance indicators and identify areas for improvement.
- Identify opportunities within existing processes to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance product quality.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess the feasibility and efficiency of potential products.
- Participate in the research and development of new processing techniques to improve packaging efficiency and product quality.
- Evaluate, improve, and document manufacturing processes.
- Contribute to the development of comprehensive work instructions, both general and product-specific, to ensure standardized processes and best practices. This may include generation of content for our training software.
- Ensure processes and controls are well-defined.
- Conduct trials, studies, and tests as requested.
- Find ways to reduce waste, study performance requirements and use mechanical methods and models to make recommendations to meet those requirements.
- Evaluate production and packaging needs for Capital Equipment.
- Obtain quotes, develop costs analysis, budgets, and project schedules.
- Develop preliminary Return-On-Investment (ROI) analysis of potential/conceptual projects.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, identifying areas for optimization and implementing best practices.
- Compile and analyze reports related to output, shortages, efficiencies, equipment issues, and rework percentages.
- Collaborate with the project team, providing recommendations and implementing corrective actions and preventive measures.
- Provide technical and engineering expertise and guidance to production and maintenance.
Required Skills & Abilities
- Bachelor's degree required. Degree in a related engineering field required (May waive in lieu of experience).
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience working with process and high-speed/automation equipment.
- Advanced knowledge in mathematical concepts such as fractions, ratios, value analysis, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, fundamentals of pump design, to resolve engineering designs and problems.
- Willingness to communicate in Spanish (not required, but a plus).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.
- Experience working with food processing facility and design.
- Adept project management skills.
- Knowledge of USDA, FDA, OSHA and environmental regulations, codes, and standards.
- Highly skilled in troubleshooting, diagnosing problems and recommending improvements.
- Strong written, verbal and presentation skills.
- Advanced PC skills including Windows, Microsoft Office Suite and Engineering and design software.
Food Safety Requirements/Responsibilities:
- Participate in the annual Management review of the Food Safety and quality system.
- Comply with all Plant, State and Federal OSHA, EPA, FDA, HACCP, and SQF regulations.
- Comply with GMPs in the plant.
- Assist in the maintenance of Food Safety and Quality system.
