Reports to: Facilities Manager

Positions reporting to this Position: None


Pay: $24.18

Purpose of the Position

The Handyperson will be responsible for executing all skilled maintenance duties in the shelter. The individual in this position will ensure safe environment for Win clients, staff, and visitors at all times. The Handyperson will inspect the interior and exterior of the building and reports findings to the Maintenance Director.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct routine building repair assessments and address accordingly. Review findings with Maintenance Director and Superintendent and develop corrective measures.
  • Responsible for building repairs, including but not limited to; plumbing, electrical, painting, plastering, flooring and heating/cooling systems.
  • Collaborate with the Superintendent to ensure that all building repairs are completed in a timely manner
  • Provide technical support and guidance to maintenance workers.
  • Use the Maintenance Data System (MDS) to track and monitor building all maintenance and repairs.
  • Perform repairs on machinery, equipment and appliances, including trash compactors.
  • Respond to client requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Work closely with maintenance staff and monitor snow removal.
  • Lead repairs and painting of units, the replacement of furniture, and appliances as needed.
  • Schedule smoke and carbon monoxide detector inspections in the units and ensure the replacement of damaged detectors.
  • Manage the seasonal maintenance of the vents, radiators and air conditioners in the units and the routine cleaning and maintenance of washers and dryers.
  • Complete routine inspections of Child Care and Recreation areas, ensuring all maintenance issues are addressed.
  • Work closely with Win approved vendors and contractors to ensure the appropriate delivery of supplies, equipment, and maintenance services.
  • Schedule exterminating services and prepare the building for exterminator services.
  • Attend maintenance and other staff meetings, client community meetings, supervisory and in-service training, as directed by the Maintenance Director.
  • Prepare all required reports in accordance with Win policies and funders.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:

  • Must be on call 24 hours, 7 days a week.
  • Must be able to work with hazardous substances with proper protective equipment.
  • Must have skills in basic carpentry, plumbing and electricity.
  • Must upskill maintenance workers in basic facilities management
  • Must ensure the safety of crew while working
  • Must be able to regularly lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to ascend/descend stairs in an 8-story building.

Qualifications:

  • Commitment to Win’s mission, vision, and values.
  • High School diploma or GED required, technical training a plus.
  • Five (5) year of experience in facility management, repairs, plumbing and electrical systems,
  • Able to adapt to new building system requirements.
  • Knowledge of building systems and HVAC.
  • Clean Class D or E driver’s license.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer skills required.
  • Ability to interact effectively with the client population, representatives of government, and private organizations.
  • Bilingual – English/Spanish a plus.
