POSITION SUMMARY:

Camp SOAR is looking for an Outdoor Ed Specialist who will enjoy spending the day exploring and teaching about the great outdoors, making a difference in the lives of children, and having fun Outdoor Ed Specialist will empower students to connect with nature, have fun while learning and create memories that will last a lifetime. Outdoor Ed Specialists lead hands on science based activities including Lake Study, Animal Adaptations, Forest Ecology, Discovery Hike and more. We also focus on outdoor adventure activities such as team building, fishing, hikes throughout the park, and outdoor living skills. Age range for groups is Kindergarten to 9th Grade. Other components of the job include daily set up and cleanup of camp, organizing class supplies, completing camp projects, and staff training. This position provides the opportunity to develop core skills related to communication, mentorship, problem solving, and people management.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


The specialists' primary responsibility is to execute an engaging experience of a specific discipline within Sports-N-Games. Campers will circulate throughout the day to engage in your lesson plans and activities for the day. Activities planned should be age appropriate for children kindergarten through 9th grade. Working under the direction of the Camp Leadership Team, in this role, it is imperative to be able to make camp the best experience a child could ever dream of and will look back and remember for years to come.


Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Creates positive, nurturing relationships with children.
  • Promotes and supports the potential of all youth in programs and facilitates peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall camp experience.
  • Actively work with campers grades K-9 with and without disabilities, in an outdoor day camp setting.
  • Develop a summer lesson plan binder for all 8 weeks of camp and inventory equipment prior to the start of summer camp.
  • Implements energizing, fun, safe, and educational programs, as directed by the supervisor, having prepared lesson plans and curriculum accordingly with room for flexibility, and supports campers in achieving and celebrating their goals.
  • Maintains inventory of equipment and/or supplies.
  • Assists with placement of orders in accordance with camp procedures.
  • Maintains proper attendance, records, and reports as directed.
  • Maintains physical presence, remains alert at all times while on duty, maintains constant visual attention to campers, and remains aware of camp surroundings.
  • Excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Interact with and work as a team player with other staff and participants.
  • Lead specialty activities with assistance from Counselors and help keep Counselors engaged and focused on the activity.

HOURS: *This role is a seasonal full time (40hrs per week) role. The ability to be flexible based on camp needs is required.*

Pre-Camp Trainings: June 8th, 15th and 29th

Camp Assignment: July 1st - August 23rd

Typical Weekly Schedule can be: Monday-Friday 8am-4pm

Requirements:
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Bachelor's Degree strongly desired, high school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience working with youth in an outdoor setting is preferred.
  • Must be a team player and also able to take on leadership roles and responsibilities.
  • Ability to stay motivated, professional, patient, positive, hardworking and flexible in an outdoor setting.
  • Desire to teach and inspire children and adults.
  • Enthusiasm and dedication to learn and master curriculum.
  • Comfortable speaking in front of large and small groups.
