Position: Payroll/Tax Consultant (1099 Contract)

Are you a seasoned payroll/tax professional who thrives on ensuring accurate and compliant payroll processing? Bright Talent is actively seeking experienced payroll/tax consultants who are well-versed in using Rippling to support our clients' payroll operations on a project basis.
As a Payroll/Tax Consultant, you will be responsible for managing and overseeing various aspects of payroll processing for our clients and providing expert advice and guidance on payroll-related matters. Your expertise in Rippling will be essential ensuring that taxes are correctly calculated and annualized. We believe in providing our clients with the right solutions at the right time—when they need them. Specific responsibilities will be determined based on the client needs, but may include:
Responsibilities:
  • Manage end-to-end payroll processing for employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Set up and manage new pay types within Rippling, ensuring correct tax calculations and annualization.
  • Calculate and process payroll deductions, including taxes, benefits, and garnishments.
  • Maintain and update employee payroll records, including salaries, overtime, bonuses, and commissions.
  • Reconcile payroll discrepancies and resolve any issues or errors.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in payroll regulations and tax laws to ensure compliance.
  • Provide guidance and support to clients on payroll-related inquiries.
  • Collaborate with the HR department to ensure accurate and timely employee onboarding, offboarding, and changes to employment status.
  • Prepare and distribute payroll reports, including tax filings, year-end reports, and W-2 forms.
  • Assist with the implementation and optimization of payroll systems and software.
  • Conduct audits of payroll procedures and recommend process improvements.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred).
  • Certification such as CCP (Certified Payroll Professional) or similar (preferred).
  • 5+ years of hands-on payroll and tax
  • In-depth knowledge of payroll procedures, regulations, and best practices.
  • Extensive experience with Rippling, particularly in setting up and managing pay types.
  • Strong understanding of tax laws and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with payroll software and HRIS systems
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Location: While many clients are based in Southern CA, location requirements may vary. Roles could be remote, hybrid, or onsite, depending on client needs.
