Join Our Team as a Housekeeping Associate at HI New York City Hostel

Join Hostelling International USA at our vibrant Boston hostel and explore the perks of being part of our team. We are currently accepting applications for a Housekeeping Supervisor. The Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible for quality inspections, training, documentation, and accountability of the facility, ensuring the proper cleaning of all hostel grounds. This position requires flexibility to cover shifts, including afternoons, evenings, and weekends.   

Position Details:  

   

Pay: $22-24 per hour

Type: Full-time, benefit-eligible  

Shift: Position requires a flexible schedule, with shifts starting as early as 8 am or ending as late as 8 pm, including weekends.

Responsibilities:  

   

- Create and distribute tasks for the housekeeping team

- Check assigned tasks for quality and cleanliness

- Support Housekeeping Manager with administrative tasks and coverage

- Communicate with maintenance and report any building issues

- Clean common spaces, kitchens, bathrooms, and rooms as assigned, including walls, floors, mirrors, windows, paintings, furniture, counters, and door frames; vacuum, mop, and buff floors as needed

- Process linens in laundry operation as needed

- Empty trash and clean operations offices daily

- Clean common restrooms, hallways, kitchens, lounges, and lobby areas

- Follow HI Quality Standards and Procedures

- Maintain proper linen pars, chemicals, and amenity inventories; conduct inventories as assigned and recommend purchases within budget

- Conduct monthly and quarterly housekeeping inventories

- Ensure guest privacy and security

- Keep immediate supervisor informed of all significant problems or unusual matters

- Conduct department training regularly in conjunction with OSHA and HI Quality Standards, including cleaning techniques and safe use of cleaning products

- Maintain hostel Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for cleaning chemicals

- Check all HVAC units in the building and alert Maintenance of any problems

- Perform other duties or special projects as assigned by management

Skills/Qualifications:  

- High school diploma or GED with a minimum of 2 years of housekeeping experience, or equivalent experience

- Ability to speak and understand Spanish

- Leadership and effective communication skills

- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

- Attention to detail and problem resolution skills

- Ability to multi-task and interpret various instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

- Minimum six months of hostel or hotel experience preferred

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Physical Demands and Work Environment:  

- Regularly required to sit and use hands and arms

- Frequently required to stand, walk, talk, and hear

- Occasionally required to climb or balance

- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

- Specific vision abilities required: close and peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment

- Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
