Pay Rate: $32.00 – $34.00/hr., based on skills and experience.


Summary

To assess and forecast all avalanche hazards at Loveland Ski Area. To document all avalanche mitigation and update all avalanche control documentation. To develop and supervise all explosives training. Assist the Ski Patrol Director in the training, scheduling, and supervision of all Ski Patrol avalanche mitigation operations. Develop and upgrade all Ski Patrol avalanche procedures and operations. Responsible for skier/snowboarder safety. Maintain inventory of all Avalanche mitigation equipment including repairs, refills, and replacement when needed. Perform the duties of the Ski Patrol Director in absence of Director. Every employee is responsible for providing a positive experience for our guests and employees, with safety and fun as our top priorities.


Essential Functions

  • Responsible for avalanche control planning and execution, directing control work to be performed
  • Responsible for evaluating and recommending employees who are selected as control work route leaders
  • Monitor performance of patrollers and provide input to Patrol Director related to performance management, including evaluations, performance correction, coaching, disciplinary action, promotions and assignment of special duties.
  • Responsible for delivering performance reviews to a portion of the patrol staff
  • Training of ski patrol skills and procedures
  • Responsible for creating, maintaining, and updating relevant training protocols and procedures for avalanche control work, avalanche rescue, cache inventory and reporting, advanced avalanche education (i.e. AAA level courses) and any other snow safety focused initiatives
  • Performance of any patroller/other supervisory duties, as needed
Requirements:

Requirements/Qualifications

  • H. S. diploma or equivalent education and/or experience
  • 3-5 years’ experience in Ski Patrol leadership and all aspects of ski patrolling.
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Emergency Medical Technician or Outdoor Emergency Care certifications
  • Possession of or the ability to pass a FELC criminal background check and obtain a CDLE Type 1 Explosives Permit.
  • Minimum AAA Pro 1 or AIARE Level 3 certification. Pro II preferred
  • Possession of (or ability to obtain) a valid Colorado Driver’s License, with an acceptable driving record
  • Have knowledge of explosives handling and storage, avalanche control, search and rescue procedures and chairlift evacuation procedures.
  • Ability to assume temporary incident command of any on mountain critical incidents.
  • Proficient computer skills, including MS Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English – speak and understand verbal and written communications.
  • Bilingual is helpful
  • Expert level ski or snowboard ability
  • Must be designated as a Class 4 Loveland Ski Patroller, or equivalent
