EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Midwest Food Bank (MFB) is a $482M non-profit organization with 10 divisions in the U.S. and 2 operations internationally. MFB operates with $76M in assets and an annual organizational operating budget of $20M to distribute over $482M in food and disaster relief food boxes to 2,400 agencies.


MISSION STATEMENT: As a faith-based organization, it is the mission of Midwest Food Bank to share the love of Christ by alleviating hunger and malnutrition locally and throughout the world and providing disaster relief; all without discrimination.


MFB VOLUNTEERS: At MFB, our volunteers are the backbone of our organization, undertaking essential responsibilities that would typically be handled by paid staff. This enables us to allocate more resources towards supplying products to the agencies we support, thereby extending our reach to a greater number of individuals within our communities. Becoming a volunteer with MFB offers a unique chance to refine skills, seize professional growth opportunities, and make a significant impact across the entire spectrum of our operations.


BASIC FUNCTIONS: Our dedicated Core Volunteers contribute their expertise to fulfill specific roles within our organization. Explore the details below for some of the volunteer opportunities currently available. Additionally, if you possess skills outside of these areas, we welcome you to apply based on your unique expertise.

Project Lead Volunteers

Attributes: Enthusiastic, Approachable, Team Player with Leadership Skills

Role Responsibilities: Greet and train volunteers for group project, facilitate project with enthusiasm and encouragement, Close project when finished.


Food Distribution Volunteers

Attributes: Patient, Organized, Communicative and Team Player

Role Responsibilities: Variety of opportunities including:

*Volunteers greeting agency partners as they arrive

*Lead Volunteer guiding agency partner in selecting food

*Volunteers handling the cart for the agency

*Volunteers loading the cart with the selected food

*Volunteers helping load the agency vehicle with the food items collected.

*Volunteers replenishing the floor with the food items


Class A CDL Truck Drivers

Attributes: Flexible, Attentive, Punctual

Role Responsibilities: Safely drive MFB truck to specified pick up/drop off, complete electronic logs, maintain the vehicle while on the road, attend yearly, in-person training course and maintain paperwork.


Fork Lift Drivers

Attributes: Organized, Attentive, Team Player

Role Responsibilities: Receive incoming loads, move product in the warehouse and store in racking, and prepare outgoing loads. Assist with distribution and other warehouse activities.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Depending on the role, periods of movement and standing in a warehouse setting. This includes the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull light to heavy items.


Please note: This is an unpaid volunteer role.
