Job Summary:

To operate assigned equipment or areas of the plant and perform operations related activities per the work process, utilize chemical manufacturing knowledge and experience to operate and troubleshoot the plant in a safe and efficient manner, work in a team environment where individuals often set priorities and complete work activities with minimal supervision. Work schedule is 12 hour, rotating shifts.

Responsibilities:

Role Specific Responsibilities:

  • Monitors process conditions, equipment and control systems in order to maximize production and product quality
  • Performs tasks assigned to operations as per procedures including field checks, sampling and equipment preparation and lineups
    • Routine tasks require the capability to lift 50 lb bags or equivalent
  • Ensures operational activities and process performance is aligned with plant and business goals
  • Develops personal goals that align with and support plant and business goals
  • Performs response activities to address plant issues
  • Utilizes process knowledge and skill to continuously improve plant performance and operating discipline
  • Utilizes measurements and tools in the plant to run at optimum conditions
  • Utilizes skills to perform process equipment troubleshooting, minor repairs, improvements and preventative maintenance, utilizing appropriate processes and disciplines

Inventory Control

  • Determines and monitors levels in all storage tanks and process vessels
  • Completes all required paperwork including those for interplant transfers, shipping and receiving.
  • Drums and totes bin inspection, labeling and handling including forklift operations

Material Transfers

  • Loading and Unloading bulk cargo containers
  • Filling, emptying and transferring the contents of process intermediate containers including drums, tote bins and pails
  • Interplant transfers from storage tanks and process units
  • Wastewater transfers via pipeline to the industrial POTW

Process and Storage Units

  • Makes unit lineups including line and hose breaks for process unit operations including piping spool pieces and bulk container connections
  • Samples process units, storage tanks and other chemical process containers

Facilities Maintenance

  • Completes simple maintenance items including replacing simple valves and fittings
  • Cleanout of process and storage units including piping and hoses for changeover to new processes
  • Yard maintenance including mowing, sweeping, and edging

Waste Handling

  • Proper packaging, labeling, inspection and handling of waste containers including drums, totes and bulk shipping containers
  • Completes the uniform waste manifest forms and other required paperwork for shipping documentation

Laboratory

  • Monitors and changes out the gas chromatographs gas supply cylinders
  • Provides process support through simple laboratory analyses including percent water, manual and auto titrations, and gas chromatography
  • Completes proper labeling and storage of shipping, receiving and batch retain samples

Communication

  • Provides accurate verbal and written process information to relief operator coming on for next shift
  • Communicates with supervision concerning process operations and other issues which may impact safety, facility operations or personnel

Compliance:

  • Complies with company Health, Safety and Environmental policies, procedures, and arrangements
  • Reports all Health, Safety and Environmental accidents, incidents and near misses promptly
  • Acts in a safe and responsible manner at all times

Problem Solving and Innovation:

  • Active participation in continuous improvement activities
  • Participates in problem-solving
  • Takes responsibility and ownership for own learning and development in the spirit of continuous improvement of both self and the business
  • Assists in the training, mentoring, and assessment of other team members

Qualifications/Desired Skills:

Education and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Experience:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working in a manufacturing environment is required
  • Must be comfortable working with chemicals including acidic and basic chemicals, flammable chemicals - experience working with chemicals is preferred
  • Must be able to work a rotating shift work schedule
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Must have basic computer skills.
  • Experience using a forklift is preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Good communication skills in English, both written and verbal
  • Must be able to read, understand, and follow operating and safety procedures
  • Good problem-solving & computer skills, mechanical aptitude, and mathematical abilities
  • Self-motivated and ability to work within a fast paced environment
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Physical Demands / Work Environment:
    • Employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Employee is occasionally required to climb stairs/ladders (including vertical.)
    • Employee must be able lift 50 pounds
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job may include close vision
  • Must be able to perform under the following conditions:
    • Work in awkward or confining workspaces
    • Work in elevated places
    • Work in outdoor environment and adverse weather conditions at times
