JOB SUMMARY:

The objective of this position is to oversee all aspects of detailing and cutlisting as noted here, while also performing Document Controller duties. Work closely with the Drafting & Engineering Supervisor, Salesmen, & Shop Supervisors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Objectives of the detailing department include:

1. Maintain adherence to standards and construction methods of doors & windows.
2. Ensure a high level of quality and accuracy of drawings and cut lists.
3. Produce cut lists and checklists via Excel on approved customer drawings
4. Maintain procedures as detailed in Palm City Millwork’s SOP’s.
5. Satisfy overall shop production and sales needs.
6. Implement and ensure established drafting standards, including:
a. Completeness and accuracy
b. Constructability
c. Consistency of Nomenclatures
7. Management of drafting vendors as needed.
8. Maintain and advise on department equipment and supplies.

Primary responsibilities of the Detailing Manager:

  • Meet and beat the standard schedule of all projects.
  • Meet and beat the lead time for drawing submittals.
  • Promote proper communications between all departments.
  • Promote, instruct, and maintain proper established procedures throughout the staff.
  • Responsible for identifying needs regarding technical training of department personnel.
  • Advise Supervisor and Sales for projects under your control by actively managing the Detailing Department as noted here:
  • Continuously monitor projects under your control for potential issues which could prevent the process from moving forward and address them accordingly.
  • Compare the status of each project tracker under your control with the monthly shop schedule and advise appropriate personnel.
  • Manage the in-house drafting team
  • Coordinate drawing submittal schedules to the satisfaction of projects under your control.
  • Maintain the designer’s intent for drawing approval.
  • Incorporate needs of constructability into shop drawings.
  • Monitor and document department status for projects under your control.
  • Monitor project & shop trackers every week.
  • Drive work from drafting into cutlist and checklist after approved drawings from Customer.
  • Actively manage drafting team members based upon ever-changing shop & project priorities.
  • Coordinate communications with sales and the drafting team.
  • Manage drafting out-source team
  • Establish and maintain a working relationship with various drafting contractors that fit the needs of the company.
  • Identify early, when to bring in outside help to maintain the project schedules required.
  • An understanding of which vendor to use on each type of project is required.
  • Integrate drafting vendor into our daily drafting process.
  • Maintain department equipment, making recommendations to the Supervisor.
  • Hardware including personal computers, wide format plotter/scanner
  • Current software includes AutoCAD, Solidworks, and Bluebeam.

Primary interactions:

  • Works closely with and reports to the Drafting & Engineering Supervisor.
  • Give direction and coordinate the efforts of all team members noted above.
  • Communicate regularly with the Supervisor and Sales Staff to maintain a common understanding of schedule and detail.
  • Communicate with Plant Manager.
  • Respond to direct requests from the Drafting & Engineering Supervisor
  • Work with Drafting & Engineering Supervisor as required to maintain the departments.
  • Work with Sales Staff on information asked for and required.
  • Participate in project meetings with the in-house staff, GC, and/or designers.
  • Understand and manage the competence, technical or otherwise, of persons working in your and the related departments.
  • Inspire work to be done well and quickly without sacrificing quality & accuracy

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Qualified candidates will preferably have a bachelor’s degree in Architectural Drafting or a related field.
  • MINIMUM 7 YEAR experience in drafting architectural millwork. Advancement through the drafting or related department, gaining knowledge of company processes and protocol is preferred.
  • Diverse experience within architectural millwork and related trade required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage individuals, teams, and processes.
  • Previous experience working in a millwork shop and strong understanding of wood and machining processes is preferred.
  • Strong ability to understand other building industry disciplines.
  • Strong ability to read blueprints and architectural drawings.
  • Ability to keep current on contemporary materials and processes.
  • Working knowledge of custom millwork fabrication and subcontracting practices within the construction industry.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD’s latest version
  • Working knowledge of Solidworks, a plus
  • Experience with MS Excel required
  • Working knowledge of Bluebeam, a plus
