Overview of Position: Responsible for the follow up of patient balance accounts.

Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED, Associate degree/certification preferred, 1-2 years’ experience in health insurance and/or healthcare industry knowledge is required.

Knowledge/Skills: Good oral and written skills, excellent computer skills, knowledge of insurance industry. Medical terminology requires strong analytical skills. Detailed oriented with strong organizational skills. Ability to be flexible with changing priorities, work volume, procedures, and variety of tasks. Must be comfortable working and making decisions independently. Must be able to multitask. Excellent customer service skills are a must.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist with assuring departmental goals are achieved in given parameters.
  • Provide service excellence in all aspects of work.
  • Establish and monitor payment arrangement with patients using established guidelines.
  • Complete necessary research for account assignment.
  • Resolve patient concerns regarding outstanding balances.
  • Process return mail based on department guidelines.
  • Responds to incoming calls and makes outbound calls as required to resolve outstanding patient balances.
  • Document all calls within established procedures.
  • Communicate appropriately with all customers to include, updating insurance, and routing accounts to appropriate service areas when needed.
  • Collect patient payments via telephone.
  • Perform work in accordance with regulatory requirements, policies/procedures and departmental standards in regards to HIPAA and other government requirements.
  • Other assigned duties.

Physical Requirements: Must possess the ability to communicate in the dominant language of the geographic region. Must be able to lift 30 pounds. Vision and hearing corrected to within normal limits is required. Must have manual dexterity to key in data; utilize computer, grab, grip, hold, tear, cut, sort, and reach.
