Albuquerque City Drug (a FarmaKeio NM pharmacy) is seeking a lead compounding pharmacist. This is not your standard retail pharmacy position. If you prefer a high-volume grind this is not the position you are looking for. The primary responsibility of the lead compounding pharmacist is to oversee daily compounding workflow functions, verify completed compounds, provide patient counseling, utilize clinical expertise to ensure proper medication therapy, ensure compliance with facility standard operation procedures (SOPs), adherence to state and federal regulations, and directly supervise pharmacy staff on shift. Reports to the Pharmacy Manager/PIC and Director of Operations.

  • Maintain licensure in good standing with all applicable states.
  • Maintain professional competence for all duties performed.
  • Comply with all applicable federal and state pharmacy laws.
  • Perform duties in compliance with SOPs and best practices.
  • Receive and reduce to writing verbal prescription orders as allowed by law.
  • Interpret, and clarify with the prescribing practitioner as necessary, prescription orders.
  • Input patient and prescription information and/or supervise such work as performed by others.
  • Create, print, and/or check documents such as prescriptions, master formulation records, compounding records, labels, and shipping documents.
  • Offer information and advice as appropriate to prescribers, other health care professionals, and other employees.
  • Create and/or check for accuracy and safety - prescription, compounding, and shipment paperwork.
  • Ensure and oversee all functions and staff in the compounding department.
  • Perform in-process and final checks of compounded and retail medications.
  • Compound sterile and non-sterile preparations.
  • In general, ensure the quality and safety of dispensed prescriptions, compounded products, and supplies.
  • Directly supervise technicians and other employees involved in day-to-day pharmacy operations and activities.
  • Counsel and advise patients and caregivers concerning dispensed prescriptions.
  • Interact politely and effectively with patients, practitioners, and others.
  • Act as temporary pharmacist-in-charge when delegated by the Director of Operations.
  • Maintain USP 795 and USP 797 compliance when compounding non-sterile and sterile compounds.
  • Maintain the pharmacy in compliance with all federal and state rules and regulations.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Assure prompt and positive action on all questions, concerns, and suggestions.
  • Manage, train, and provide feedback to new and existing staff members.
  • Assist with updates, edits, reviews, and additions to procedure documentation.
  • Provide suggestions to improve customer service, company systems, or processes.
  • Interact politely and effectively with patients, practitioners, and others.
  • Perform as needed all duties of pharmacy technicians.
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Registered pharmacist in good standing in the state in which the pharmacy is located.
  • May require registration in other states serviced by the pharmacy.
  • Experience in compounding pharmacy is a plus.
  • Leadership, mentoring, and teaching experience.
  • Superior customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and situational awareness.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Commitment to fiscal responsibility.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in retail or compounding pharmacy.
  • Computer Rx and/or LifeFile software experience.
  • Delivery experience.
  • Ability to think outside the box.
  • Knowledge of drug cost and drug plan reimbursements.
  • Immunization certification.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
