Certified Nursing Assistant

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is responsible for providing direct patient nursing care services under the direct supervision of the Shift Supervisor, RN, or NT/LPN. The CNA organizes the aspects of care which has been delegated to support the RN in efficiently meeting patient needs.
Typical schedule:
0.6 FTE - 12 hour shifts - days - 6:00 AM to 6:30 PM - with every third weekend and holiday rotation
Qualifications
- Completion of Certified Nursing Assistant training program and current State of Wisconsin Nursing Assistant certification, required.
- Current BLS certification, required.
- Minimum of six months of hospital setting experience, preferred.
- Electronic medical record experience, preferred.
Responsibilities include:
- Performs patient observation and care following OMC nursing standards of care including:
- Performs and documents in a timely manner patient weights and vitals signs.
- Assists patients in performing ADLs .
- Provide general nursing care such as personal cares; skin care; positioning; lifting; turning; applying special equipment; assisting in use of bedpan, urinal, or commode; ambulation; and pre-operative and post-operative care as assigned by the RN.
- Performs routine procedures such as glucometer checks, oximetry, and EKGs as delegated by the RN.
- Participates in the interdisciplinary plan of care for the patient.
- Maintains a clean and safe environment for patients including:
- Follows all OMC and Nursing Department procedures related to patient safety and infection prevention.
- Performs all care activities utilizing universal precautions.
- Knowledge of infection control practices and their relation to patient care outcomes.
- Assist in maintaining a safe and clean environment by cleaning utility rooms, cleaning equipment and preparing for disinfection or sterilization, reporting equipment that is out of order, reporting other problems to the charge nurse, appropriate handling of clean and dirty linen and storing supplies on the unit.
- Cleans equipment in dirty utility room adhering to universal precautions.

- Ability to perform essential functions of a Certified Nursing Assistant.
- Ability to effectively participate in the interdisciplinary care team.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with patients, family members, and co-workers.
- Ability to effectively handle stress.
- Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality per OMC policy.
- Ability to provide age appropriate and culturally appropriate care.
- Willingness and ability to perform additional duties on an as needed basis.
