We are seeking a qualified and experienced CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) Instructor to join our team. As a CDL Instructor, you will be responsible for providing high-quality training and education to students preparing for their CDL exams. You will play a critical role in shaping the next generation of professional drivers by ensuring they possess the knowledge, skills, and confidence required to operate commercial vehicles safely and effectively.
Responsibilities
- Teach students the principles of safe driving, traffic laws, and regulations pertaining to commercial vehicles.
- Provide behind-the-wheel instruction to students, guiding them through maneuvers such as backing, turning, and shifting gears.
- Assist in the development and updating of the CDL training curriculum to meet industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Evaluate student progress through written exams, practical driving tests, and other assessments. Provide constructive feedback to help students improve.
- Ensure all training is conducted in accordance with federal and state regulations, including DOT (Department of Transportation) standards.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and certification status.
- Conduct routine checks and maintenance of training vehicles and equipment, reporting any issues promptly.
- Serve as a mentor and role model to students, demonstrating professionalism and best practices in commercial driving.
- Collaborate with administrative staff to ensure the smooth operation of the training program.
- Other duties as directed by management/ownership
Qualifications:
- Must hold a current and valid Commercial Driver’s License (Class A) with a clean driving record.
- Minimum of 5-10 years of professional driving experience in the commercial transportation industry.
- Prior experience as a CDL Instructor.
- Thorough understanding of federal and state driving regulations, as well as best practices in commercial vehicle operation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively.
- Ability to work with students of varying skill levels and adapt teaching methods to meet individual needs.
- Must be able to sit for extended periods, operate large vehicles, and assist students with physical tasks related to vehicle operation.
- Bilingual (Spanish) is preferred.
