SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
This position is responsible for performing research and development experiments for projects and products in collaboration with others by using professional concepts in accordance with company objectives to help solving problems in creative and effective ways. This position will regularly exercise technical discretion in execution and interpretation of experiments that contribute to project goals. Projects will require full understanding of and ability to apply established principles, theories, and concepts in area of responsibility, together with a working knowledge of related disciplines. Projects require familiarity with current scientific literature together with capability to select methods and techniques for obtaining solutions within broadly defined practices and procedures. May be involved in teams, which include participation from other sections and/or divisions. May provide guidance to less senior personnel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS
- Contribute to project process within scientific discipline through innovative research.
- Support protocol development and execute associated quantitative analyses.
- Collect, record, analyze and interpret experimental data and discuss results and present of data with colleagues and management.
- Write reports and scientific summaries on projects as requested.
- Execute research and development in accordance with the FDA mandated design control requirements on projects that include process and product development, validation and verifications, and improvement opportunities for new and existing products.
- Provide input regarding specific details for improvement of existing products; process improvements that increase manufacturing efficiency, quality, utility and/or product cost; and recognize and report unusual or unique results.
- Participate in all applicable company, departmental, team, and project meetings.
- Assist in authoring Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Perform instrument maintenance and preventative maintenance.
- Assist with the transfer of technology and knowledge into manufacturing, operations, and quality control departments within the organization.
- Actively collaborate and participate with other department teams.
- Mentor and guide junior colleagues by assuming leadership roles in providing technical support for specific projects.
- Complete all other duties and projects as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline with a suggested ≥ 5 years of relevant hands-on laboratory experience in an academic or industry setting. Master's degree in a scientific discipline with a suggested ≥ 2 years of relevant hands-on laboratory experience in an academic or industry setting. Relevant laboratory experience and performance may be substituted for an upper-level degree.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with peers and colleagues of differing backgrounds
- Ability to apply established principles, theories, and concepts in area of responsibility, together with a working knowledge of related disciplines.
- Familiarity with current scientific literature together with capability to select methods and techniques for obtaining solutions within broadly defined practices and procedures.
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Knowledge of and ability to operate machines, equipment and instruments.
- Knowledge of Streck Quality System Manual pertaining to process control and change.
- Knowledge of FDA Design Control and QSR compliance requirements.
- Ability to critically analyze and interpret data is essential.
- Ability to learn new software programs, techniques and processes as related to projects.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations and analyze data.
**Work Environment/Travel Demands:
The work environment is a climate-controlled biological/chemical laboratory. Occasional short durations to cold temperatures inside walk-in coolers. Ability to wear required laboratory clean room clothing (laboratory coats, hair bonnets, and beard covers (as applicable) and other safety/protective equipment (masks, gloves, and/or face shields for example) for up to two and a half hours consecutively. Travel demands for this position are estimated up to 0%. If travel is required, this travel may include customer visits, events/trade shows, and completion of presentations primarily throughout Domestic US or International regions. Employees must comply with all travel recommendations regarding “safe travel” according to company policies and guidelines, and all federal, state, local, and international orders.
**PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:
Light work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. This also includes standing for up to two and a half hours consecutively, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, reaching, stooping, fingering, and grasping. Expressing and receiving detailed information through written and oral communication. Also has an ability to make sound, appropriate, and prompt decisions within the guidelines of the role.
