Forrester is looking for a highly skilled Superintendent to take the lead in the overall safety, schedule management, field operations, and subcontractor management of our projects. We are looking for professionals who have the experience to work on a diversity of commercial projects, know how to successfully manage subcontractors, build relationships, and grow strong teams. Superintendent will also help mentor and foster an environment of on-going learning and development while committing to our values Through Teamwork We Do The Right Thing To Make It Happen


The Superintendent is directly responsible for setup and management of the daily activities of an assigned project resulting in an on time, profitable completion that is of award-winning caliber. The Superintendent has the primary responsibility for safety on the project. Success is defined as zero safety incidents, client referrals resulting in repeat business opportunities, projects completed on schedule, a project gross margin which meets or exceeds ETO target.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical:

  • Schedule Management: Develop and manage project schedules using drawings and an understanding of construction logic. Supervise project team performance related to scheduling to ensure project outcomes are met.
  • Contracts and Risk Management: Draft and prepare standard owner contracts with input from legal teams. Resolve contract conflicts ethically to achieve project goals.
  • External Relationships: Build and maintain long-term relationships with owners, architects, and subcontractors. Intervene appropriately in client relationships to address project issues and prioritize customer value.
  • Project Management: Oversee all aspects of project management, providing guidance and mentorship to team members.
  • Subcontractor Management: Develop relationships with subcontractor senior managers, ensuring cooperation and timely execution. Address and resolve subcontractor issues promptly.
  • Safety Management: Lead proactive safety management efforts, convey the importance of safety, and investigate incidents to prevent future occurrences. Adhere to and promote safety protocols.
  • Financial Management: Manage the financial aspects of projects, set stretch financial goals, and negotiate major financial issues. Develop strategic business plans and identify ways to improve margins.
  • Project Development: Participate in client development activities, lead client presentations, and secure new business. Cultivate relationships with key clients and engage in relevant trade associations.
  • Pre-Construction, Estimating, and Purchasing: Understand project details and apply them to the budgeting process. Coordinate between clients, pre-construction, and operations to ensure budget accuracy and project success.

  • Execution: Organize workflow, use resources efficiently, and track team performance to ensure desired outcomes.
  • Talent Management: Recruit, develop, and motivate team members. Implement career development plans and address performance issues as needed.
  • Impact and Influence: Work across functions to achieve company priorities, manage stress, and help others succeed.
  • Communication: Present information clearly, keep stakeholders informed, and translate issues into actionable recommendations.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build rapport with clients and manage construction subcontractors.
  • Thorough knowledge of commercial construction processes and trades.
  • Proficiency in project management software and scheduling tools.
  • Strong multitasking and prioritization skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read and interpret financial reports, project documents, and architectural plans.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence and respond to inquiries from clients and regulatory agencies.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to perform structural analysis and budget analysis.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to work with non-verbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations) and handle concrete and abstract variables.

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly required to talk, hear, stand, walk, and occasionally climb or balance. Must be able to lift or carry up to 50 lbs and have good vision capabilities.

Work Environment:

  • Ability to work in various conditions including construction sites with exposure to noise, dust, and extreme temperatures.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of field operations experience in general contracting, with experience managing projects over $5M.
  • CPR/First Aid and OSHA certifications required within the first 90 days. Additional certifications (e.g., Maryland Environmental Green Card, EM-385) are a plus.
  • Consideration may be given to candidates with at least 7 years of similar experience in construction management, estimating or other construction trades
