Job DescriptionJob Description

We are currently seeking a Collector that would be responsible for preserving the credit union's assets by maintaining monthly and yearly delinquency and charge off standards as identified in the individual performance plan. To assist members, branches, and other back office departments with collection issues and to control and prevent loan losses to the Credit Union.

Hours: Monday - Friday 8am to 5pm

Location: 1509 Baltimore Drive, Ames, IA 50010, hybrid work environment.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Actively works potential early delinquent loans and negative deposit accounts. Contacts members via phone, letters, etc., in order to make appropriate payment arrangements for loans and remedy negative account status to prevent account closure.
  • Complete necessary processes maintenance items to ensure current and accurate information is maintained and available to minimize current and future delinquency.
  • Maintains accurate files and reports on all collections activity.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills:

Experience: Six months to two years of similar or related member service experience.

Education: A high school education or GED.

Interpersonal Skills: The ability to motivate or influence others is a material part of the job, requiring a significant level of diplomacy and trust. Obtaining cooperation (internally and/or externally) is an important part of the job.

1. Professional telephone etiquette with strong friendly voice and good diction.
2. Advanced listening skills, interpersonal communication and relationship building skills.
3. Ability to be organized, efficient and methodical in daily tasks.
4. Self starter and motivator, independent thinker.

6. Ability to analyze and make recommendations from a credit report.
