JOB SUMMARY

The Shipping Clerk is responsible for ensuring that customer orders are ready for shipment. She/he is responsible for tracking, picking, preparing, and recording the shipment of outgoing finished products according to established procedures (SOPs), customer specifications, and the transportation method used.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Utilizing a hand-held bar-code scanner, pulls and prepares customers’ orders for shipment in an accurate and timely manner.

2. Prepares shipping documentation for each shipment, verifying that the paperwork correctly reflects the product ordered and picked.

3. Notifies Manager, Distribution and/or Group Leader, Distribution when issues arise which would impair the ability to pick and prepare customer orders for shipment (i.e., over-allocation, inventory inaccuracy, equipment failure, etc.).

4. Communicates with Group Leader and other appropriate departments regarding the status of customer orders and/or inventory shortages.

5. Collects information for damage claims on in-transit damage/shortage.

6. Monitors the condition of department equipment.

7. Notifies Group Leader when department supplies need to be re-ordered.

8. Assists in loading and unloading trucks, as needed.

9. Packs and prepares for shipment less than full case quantities of finished product, as well as any other items which need to be packed for shipment.


ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Moves material utilizing a hand truck, pallet jack or forklift.

2. Performs and assumes other duties and responsibilities, as may be required by the Manager, Distribution.

3. Performs inventory counts, when needed.

4. Assists in inventory rotation to ensure FIFO inventory usage.

5. Supports the Winner’s Circle and BQS processes.


REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

1. A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

2. The knowledge and skills required for this position are typically acquired in 9 to 12 months of experience in a warehousing/distribution environment.

3. Must have a valid forklift license.

4. A comprehensive understanding of GMP, OSHA, FDA and other related guidelines and be able to apply.

5. Must have familiarity with all facets of warehousing/distribution.

6. Must possess good mathematical aptitude (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).

7. Must be able to read and write business English.

8. Must possess good oral and written communication skills.

9. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

10. Must possess good organizational ability.

11. Must be computer literate in a Windows environment (i.e., basic data entry).

12. Willingness to accept other duties, as assigned.
