Job Summary

The Technician position will work in the corporate technology group. The Technician will complete physical and mechanical testing on specific assigned projects and have a working level of proficiency with materials testing equipment and machines, such as universal testing machines, impact testing equipment, balances, etc...

Essential Functions

Work with a professional technical staff in projects related to product development, process development or application development depending on the work area of the job.

Laboratory work involving new experiments and sample preparation.

Operates a variety of physical and mechanical testing instruments following all SOPs and safety requirements

Accurately measures, records and reports of data.

Follow safety and housekeeping procedures.

Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

The candidate should have 2-3 years of experience working in a physical testing environment

  • Must have the ability to read, communicate and comprehend written and oral instructions in English
  • Must have excellent laboratory skills, i.e. be willing to handle chemicals, equipment, delicate instrumentation, etc. carefully and safely
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and bring projects to completion in a timely fashion
  • Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide using units of weight, volume, and distance
  • Must be flexible and versatile in order to handle changing laboratory needs and to serve a variety of functions or technologies as the business demands

Additional Qualifications

  • Must have competent PC computer skills, e.g. Excel, MS Word, and PowerPoint
  • Must be able to effectively communicate one-on-one and in small group situations
  • Must have manual dexterity sufficient to use wide variety of standard lab equipment and ability to operate standard office equipment
  • Must have the ability to learn quickly to utilize software related to specific techniques
  • Must have skills in manipulation of data, mathematical formulae, calibration procedures, record keeping, and mechanical aptitude
  • Must have the ability to learn quickly to utilize software related to specific techniques

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk and/or hear
    * Occasionally required to sit
    * Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally handle up to 50 pounds
    * Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Requires use of safety equipment as dictated by work area such as safety glasses and shoes, dust mask, hard hat, respirator, face shield, hearing protection, chemical suit, gloves, aprons, etc
    * Work is inside and typical noise level fluctuates from moderate to loud
    * Repetitively exposed to moving mechanical parts/fumes or airborne particles.
  • Occasionally exposed to vibration. May occasionally be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock
