The Manager of Crewing is responsible for overseeing all aspects of vessel manning. This includes ensuring that crew scheduling is properly coordinated and managing crew travel to and from both vessels and training events for all members of the vessel crew in the River Division.

The Manager of Crewing will work closely with other members of Operations, as well as other departments such as Employee Development and Human Resources, to ensure optimal staffing levels for our vessels are met. Additionally, the Manager of Crewing will ensure that the level of expertise onboard is appropriate for the vessel, route, and environmental conditions. The position will also play a key role in the recruitment of individuals to staff the vessels.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all department personnel.
  • Work directly with the recruiting department to attract vessel personnel.
  • Work with Crewing Specialists to ensure vessel staffing is maintained and prepare for future growth.
  • Oversee and implement scheduling software selection and training.
  • Make final approval for weekly payroll prior to transmitting to HR.
  • Create and track metrics regarding turnover.
  • Promote crew retention by setting up programs and policies that focus on crew morale and reduce turnover.
  • Identify vessels with lower crew retention rates and troubleshoot.
  • Create clearly defined roles for members of the department and ensure that personnel complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
  • Oversee crew travel arrangement process.
  • Oversee crew compliance with credentialing requirements.
  • Ensure strict compliance with company procedures and policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Proven experience in crew management, preferably in a similar industry.
  • Strong understanding of relevant regulations and industry standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities
  • Adaptability and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in vessel crewing or related transpo1tation industry.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Human Resources, or a related field

Physical Capabilities:

  • Carry, push, pull or move 10 pounds regularly, or up to 20 pounds occasionally.
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
  • Ability to sit up to 8 hours per day.
