Job DescriptionJob Description

Position Overview:

This position is responsible for assisting experienced Field Service Technicians in order to develop mechanical skills. The ideal candidate will be motivated to succeed in their training, have previous experience in similar activities and long term aspirations to be a Shop or Field Service Technician. Valid Driver License and acceptable driving record a must.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Develop mechanical skills through assisting experienced field service technicians, training in-house and through outside sources.
  • Assist in all the maintenance and repair of diesel engine equipment.
  • Assist in diagnosing equipment defects and inform Office Administration of work content.
  • Assist in carrying out general repairs, major overhauls or replacement of engines and generators.
  • Perform safety inspections, oil changes, lubrication work, basic maintenance and minor repairs as directed.
  • Assist in carrying out electrical work.
  • Report machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, and equipment.
  • Clean tools, equipment and prepare parts for inspection by service technician or supervisor.
  • Ensure the security of vehicles/sites as appropriate, maintaining site in a safe place.
  • Maintain neat and organized work area.
  • Record all times and attendance hours to facilitate payment.
  • Document services performed.
  • Willingness to advance and grow with the company.
  • Attend training classes and departmental meetings.
  • Must follow all company safety policies and procedures, and immediately report any and all accidents to a manager or supervisor.
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of the job.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Ability to understand and follow instructions and technical manuals.
  • Ability to work effectively with others using good interpersonal skills.
  • Basic knowledge of diesel parts and systems.
  • Demonstrable mechanical skills and knowledge.
  • Technical training or commensurate technical experience.
  • Ability to deal effectively with customers.
  • Must be working on owning a complete set of hand tools to transition to Field Service Technician. Tools are not required but preferred.
  • Must be able to complete paperwork accurately and timely.
  • Additionally. Must be highly motivated, a quick learner and hardworking person.
  • Valid Driver License and acceptable driving record a must.

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma and/or equivalent combination of education or experience.
  • Strong technical/mechanical skills and experience and diesel product knowledge preferred.
  • Post-secondary vocational education strongly preferred.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to communicate with customers and must be able to exchange accurate information. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items up to 70 pounds safely. Must be able to detect parts and machinery from a distance and up close.

  • For insurance purposes, must have a clean driving record and valid driver's license for the state they are driving in required.
