As a Billing Specialist/Patient Account Representative, you'll play a crucial role in the healthcare system, ensuring accurate billing, timely payments, and excellent customer service. Your responsibilities may include:

  1. Billing and Invoicing: Generate and send invoices to patients or insurance companies for medical services rendered. Ensure accuracy and compliance with relevant regulations and billing guidelines.
  2. Insurance Verification: Verify patients' insurance coverage and eligibility for services. Process insurance claims and follow up on any denials or discrepancies.
  3. Payment Processing: Receive and process payments from patients or insurance companies. Maintain accurate records of payments received and outstanding balances.
  4. Patient Communication: Communicate with patients regarding their bills, payment options, and any questions or concerns they may have. Provide excellent customer service and address any billing inquiries or disputes promptly and professionally.
  5. Account Reconciliation: Reconcile accounts and resolve discrepancies between billing records, payments received, and insurance reimbursements. Ensure that accounts are accurately updated and maintained.
  6. Coding Compliance: Ensure that medical codes are accurately assigned to services provided, following established coding guidelines and regulations such as ICD-10 and CPT coding.
  7. Financial Reporting: Prepare financial reports and analyses related to billing, accounts receivable, and revenue cycle management. Provide insights and recommendations for improving billing processes and revenue optimization.
  8. Compliance and Regulations: Stay up-to-date with healthcare regulations, billing guidelines, and insurance policies to ensure compliance and minimize billing errors or fraudulent activities.
  9. Collaboration: Work closely with other healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, and administrative staff, to coordinate billing processes and resolve any billing-related issues.
  10. Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency enhancements in billing and revenue cycle management. Implement best practices to streamline workflows and enhance the overall effectiveness of the billing department.
